    Default Clean, summer fragrance recommendations

Hello, I'm looking for recommendations for a summer fragrance. I'm after something that's clean smelling and fresh, fairly versatile so can be worn day or night in both hot, humid environments and in air conditioned offices. Something that is inoffensive and is a safe blind buy. I care about longevity more than projection, I don't wanna be that guy you can smell from across the room the moment he enters. I'd prefer something affordable, I'm not looking to dump money on something like Creed.

I'm generally not a huge fan of citruses because a lot of freshie citrus frags smell like dish-washing liquid to me. I'm fine with them as long as they don't have that smell. I'm also fine with soapy scents as long as it's more of luxury kind of soap bar scent and not a generic, blue men's shower gel.

What I don't like are very sweet, heavy, cloying fragrances. Also not a big fan of a ton of warm spices like nutmeg or cinnamon or amber heavy frags.

What I'm currently considering going for are: Bvlgari Blv, possibly Azzaro Chrome and Mugler Cologne. Haven't tried Mugler Cologne but since it's cheap I'm fine with blind buying it and gifting it to someone in case I don't like it.

What I tried and didn't like:
Bvlgari Aqva Amara - dirty sea water and herbs. Way too herbal.
Bvlgari Pour Homme Extreme - again too herbal/grassy.
Terre d'Hermes Eau tres Fraiche - I love this fragrance the problem is that it just completely disappears after 2 hours. I'd wear this if I could get 6 hours from it. I tried original EDT and Parfum and they're great but I'm looking for something cleaner smelling.
Versace Pour Homme, Acqua di Gio, Dior Homme Sport - all of these have a raw egg white note in them that I don't like. In case of Dior it's a metallic, raw egg white. Not sure what it is but it's probably the same note/chemical responsible for the smell in all of them and it just doesn't work on my skin.
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver - this smells very cinnamon heavy too me. I wasn't expecting such a warm smelling spice from something with grey in name. It's not bad, I love the smell of cinnamon I just don't want to smell like cinnamon if that makes sense.
Mancera Cedrat Boise - this is a very dirty smell. Citrusy part is nice but it has a very dirty note in it that makes it smell like a horse stable.
Cool Water - smells like high school gym. It's in the same category as Axe/Lynx to me, it doesn't smell bad but I'm not 16 any more so I'll pass on it.

In my current summer frag rotations are Eau des Baux and Encre Noir Sport. Eau des Baux is generally not thought of as a summer fragrance but on my skin the sweetness disappears and it develops a salty note that when combined with smoky woods and incense reminds me of Mediterranean coast where I live. It smells kinda like salty sea air mixed with resinous woods under a hot, summer sun. EN Sport for rainy days because it smells so damp. Not a huge fan of peppery-ness in it tho but it goes away soon and then it's really nice.

Any recommendations are welcome and I'd be interested in comparison between Bvlgari Blv and Mugler Cologne in case anyone owns both and can compare.

Hmmmm….interesting note pickup on the Aqua Di Gio, Versace Pour Homme, and Dior Homme Sport. I don't think those three smell anything alike at all.

Have you tried Eau Sauvage? Parfum is better, IMO, but the EDT is great also.

Definitely check out Mugler Cologne. Perhaps also Nu Green.

They don't smell alike but they all have that same note which just doesn't work for me. I'd happily wear Dior Homme Sport if it wasn't for egg yolk smell.

I tried both Eau Sauvage and the newer Sauvage. I think it was EDT Eau Sauvage that I tried and it was nice. A bit too warm smelling for what I'm looking for right now. I know an older gentleman who wears it so I can't help but think about it as a fragrance for more mature men. That and TDH Parfum are on my list of stuff to wear once I'm over 40 or maybe even in 50s.

Sauvage was horrible. That and Armani Code Profumo are two of the most nauseating fragrances I smelled.

Bleu de Chanel really fits the bill based on your spec, Missoni - Pour Homme follows its lead but does it own thing at a much lower price. I also think you'd enjoy Escentric - Molecule 01, Coach - Platinum and the Prada - Infusion range as they are all variations on a theme depending on whether you want it freshened with citrus, iris etc...

Given your stated criteria, Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir is a splendid option. It's a refreshing green fragrance built on a lovely tea note. It has a minimalist composition but offers more intrigue than your average "green" freshie (I think it's much more interesting than the likes of Guerlain L'Eau Boisee).

The Mugler is definitely worth trying. Clean and with a touch of soap, but not the regular one.

If you have a Lush nearby, you can also check Dirty. In body spray, it's quite cheap and lasts a long time. Despite the name, it smells minty and fresh.

Hermes Eau Vetiver Intense might work for you, and longevity is good.
Acqua di Parma Assoluta might also work, as might Intensa (but I'd veer towards the former given your brief).
+1 for the suggestion of Bleu de Chanel. I personally prefer the EdP but the EdT is undoubtedly brighter.

I'd suggest Mugler Cologne or Guerlain Homme L'eau Boisee.

You cant go wrong with Bleu de chanel edp really. It matches all your criteria. And I dont know where you get cinnamon from in Grey vetiver. There is no cinnamon in that one.

Possibly also adding to a possible (re) testing list, in no particular order:

Ginepro Nero by l'Erbolario, Sartorial by Penhaligon's, Creed OV, Aramis Tuscany and/or Tuscany Uomo Forte, l'Occitan, Azzaro pour Homme Summer Edition (from any year would do, because the price-quality ratio remains alright), Lalique Homme EDP, Eau de Rochas Homme, Boucheron pour Homme EDP, Chevignon Brand for Men and/or Best of Chevignon, Voyage d'Hermes EDP, Guerlain Homme Intense EDP and/or Guerlain Homme Eau Boisee, Eau de Grey Flannel, Zara Norrland EDP, Fahrenheit 32 by Dior and/or other Dior Fahrenheit summer flankers, Chopard Noble Cedar and/or Noble Vetiver

naming only a few of the ones of the less citrus-dominated clean summer choices which can be had within fairly affordable/inexpensive budget limits (perhaps with few exceptions that only confirm the rule)

I also would recommend Parfum de Marly Percival.

My suggestion would be Escentric 02 by Escentric Molecules.
This one is not to be confused with Molecule 02 which is not the same as Escentric 02.

It's a very clean, zesty, long-lasting fresh scent. Quite unique and won't break the bank either.
