L'Ombre Fauve for me. lt's not overly filthy, but has a soft animal fur vibe that l find especially comforting.

Muscs Koublai Khan is where I draw the line. I also only wear it on my own and when not going out because I can fully understand how some people may interpret it as BO. That's also the reason I enjoy it. It does give off a sweaty armpit vibe, if sweaty armpits were... well, sexy.

    L'Ombre Fauve is nice.

    Vintage Antaeus
    Original Boss

These two come to mind. Honorable mention for Bal a Versailles. I like it, it's more animalic than these two, but I only have a mini and rarely wear it. These two get worn a lot.

There are of course all kinds of 'animalic', from the classic (and classy) gloss of civet in classic fumes to the most aggressive blue-cheese-smelling ouds.

The most animalic in my wardrobe is probably Leather Oud, which I absolutely love but approach with respect and trepidation.

Mouchoir de Monsieur, which is as close as it gets to being a signature fragrance for me, has a challenging blast of civet at the outside that soon settles down: it's not overtly animalic from start to finish, imo, and the same goes for a lot of the classics.

Montecristo by Masque for me. It's one of my favorite fragrances in general. Some are put off by the funk in the opening blast, but I wish it took even longer for it to tone down. It's boozy, leathery, woody, spicy, musky. Because the opening settles down fairly quick, I find it easy to wear.

I have the older 100ml bottle and writing this reminds me to look around for another 100ml bottle as a backup.

    Bogart Furyo, perhaps.

It might not be the most animalic one I own, but there's always an undercurrent of pissy civet there, intermixed with the patchouli/florals/nag champa-like sweet incense. Perfumers listed are Ron Winnegrad and a young Thierry Wasser.

80s bombast (two sprays is plenty) with the highest levels of creativity. One of those rare hyper-masculine fragrances that would work extremely well on the right woman, as the florals, especially the indolic jasmine, would just shine through.

Leopard by Sarah Baker Perfumes. Just the right amount of skank and furry creature tones.

The current Muscs Koublai Khan is not nearly as dramatic as it once was with the animalics, and even then it was more pronounced in the opening. Nowadays it's not that far removed from Kiehl's, albeit more complex with slightly higher quality ingredients.

Vintage Kouros (and the older the better, imo) is one that often gives me pause. Not because it's dramatically animalic (though I suppose by today's insipid overly sanitized standards it is), but because there's always an undercurrent of 'man funk' present, from an area much lower than armpits.

My bottle is a limited release 50ml spray from 2009, so no idea how it compares to the original release, but I dare speculate that it's possibly punchier than what's on the market at the moment.

I'm also just sniffing the cap... gorgeous residual drydown. Mmm.

I have the vintage as well, and have a sample from recent. I wouldn't buy recent, certainly at the extortionist prices asked these days.

For me, ELdO Rien overall, but probably in terms of just pure animalics, JAR Ferme tes yeux (dirty jasmine). When I first smelled it, I though it was too much. But then one gets used.

Kouros is always fun, exactly because of the lockerroom vibe. MKK is fun up top, but the drydown is clean.

Yataghan & Aramis 900 for 'clean' animalic
Pour Lui & Worth PH have a fleshy dirty animalic muskiness that I also enjoy.

    My current favorites:

MKK - a gorgeous combination of rose and musk and cumin

Oudh Infini - so lush and sooo dirty (thanks to its oud)

Koh-i-Noor - indolic florals and an underlying musky funk

I have a certain love of musky, animalic scents. I'd say stuff in my collection like MKK and L'Ombre Fauve definitely stand out, with others like Musc Ravaeur being notable inclusions (even though it's not really a proper musk).

If I could afford it, my favorite might be Arabian Horse 3.1 by Parfumerie Generale.

Pure animal, plus the stuff that goes into and comes out of him.

Mazzolari Lui is another one that smells like horses to me. Horse piss and sweaty saddles, although it's not really a leather perfume. Dries down to a musky patchouli.

Probably the one that I wear often that may be considered 'animalic' is Musc ravageur. I wear it to the gym sometimes. Perfect to be animalic there. lol

Oud Maximus is pretty animalic...I like it, but not as much as some of the other nuanced Areej and Bortnikoff scents.

I have a large decant of Papillon Salome. Big, fat hyraceum/castoreum/musk/leather/indolic floral combo, but done so smoothly. I think it's about as animalic as I can go, which is pretty animalic.

One that went over the line, by contrast, was Areej le Dore Ottoman Empire. I think it's objectively the same amount animalic, just not modulated as well.

Hm, i have decants of vintage Leather Oud and Siberion Musk II, which i love, but both of those give me pause before lavishly applying. For daily wear i guess Yatagan is an everyday driver for me. Kiehls is great before bed too.

    Of what I own?

Moustache, Joint, and Jicky give me my civet fix.
One Man Show, Antaeus, and Globe do me for castoreum
Kouros, Lapidus, and Wild Country get me done for musk
I don't own a lot of really virile ouds yet as most are niche and expensive, but I like Oud Infini, Leather Oud, and Oud Palao

It's a biggie, but it seems like there's something about hyraceum that a bit less head-banging than other animalic materials.

Oh, that reminds me of another favorite: Montecristo by Masque Milano. More hyraceum, but lots more masculine than Salome.
