Default Kids and perfume (I may not get my rental deposit back)

My husband decided to remove Chanel's Egoiste and Bleu from his collection (Burberry London is quickly becoming his favorite). He gifted them to my sons....who are under the age of 10. We told them to stick to literally just one spritz each once a day.

Tonight my younger son decided he needed to 'freshen up' his room and it smelled like an Egoiste bomb went off. His older brother took Egoiste and chased him down the stairwell gleefully spraying pretty much the walls. Our entire house smelled of Egoiste for a good 3-ish hours at full blast. It's 10pm and it's finally settling down. I also found out the perfume spray left a mark on the wall that isn't quite coming off.

Needless to say, Egoiste has been taken away. Perhaps we should stick to Eauxs instead for the kids.

This does not have anything to do with fragrances. At the risk of sounding rude, this would be better fit for a instagram or facebook post, or perhaps a blog.

Shrewd boys; probably figured the ‘one spritz rule’ only applies to on-skin application. No rules had been set for ‘in-room’ or ‘on-wall’ applications so...

Interesting. Burberry London does have a following. I can understand the decision on Bleu de Chanel. That's arguably harsh on Egoiste, but not everyone is jazzed about the current version.

I sprayed my sheets with Grey Flannel the other day - admittedly I went a bit overboard - and the smell slowly crept through the house before filling the entire thing. Ooops. I will admit, the thought of an Egoiste squirt-gun fight does sound fun.

If you had been following my posts in the past you would know I've been trying to get my older children into perfumes and how to use them wisely. In the past I had bought them some 'children's colognes and perfumes, so this is an ongoing saga that has some trial and error. I myself wasn't allowed to wear scents or perfumes until well after the age of 18, so I'd like to introduce the hobby to my kids sooner so they don't douse themselves in Drakkar Noir or Axe when in high school (nothing wrong with either).

I can also state that I enjoy the humor in many posts here on Basenotes and there is quite a lot of back and forth banter in many of the comment threads. I think we can all enjoy a smile centering around perfume every now and then.

The moderator is always welcome to move or remove a post if they feel it doesn't fit the bill.

Is your home still smelling of Egoiste?

I see Bleu is not taken yet, so we might hear some more stories in near future!

I'd stick with 4711. They can waste that real quick and it's cheap too

Why would you want to get your small kids into/exposed to adult fragrances? I dont get that.
Who cares if they get into axe in young adulthood. It wont hurt them. Plus, im sure theyll be smart enough to look into quality frgrances in the future on their own if they get interested.

We had a similar issue with my younger son’s Eau de Mission being used almost in its entirety as a bathroom/room freshener by my older son, much to the grief of its owner.

For the record, we’ve had good luck with 4711 in a dabber bottle.

That's a waste of quality juice even if it wasn't vintage, Egoiste is good stuff.

My mom would often be given perfumes in giveaway bags at work events. Angel was at its height in the mid 90s and would always be regifted to my older brother as a recurring gag. We’d threaten to spray each other with it, probably saturating the house with it in the meantime. Cant smell it now without thinking of running lol.

Since we're having fun and this is a light hearted and enjoyable anecdote, I'd say you missed something from your rebuttal:

P.S. I kinda panic when my niece's are round haha as I sometime leave a few bottles lying around - don't want em' getting tr*gger happy and incorporating spritz action into their ever persistence dance routines!! "Everybody do the ... SPRITZ!!"

    Thank you for sharing.

For now, would keep them away from fragrances or at least fragrances of this particular strength, since there is still plenty of time to decide later on whether fragrances are their hobby (possibly one of their hobbies) of choice or not.

Sounds to me like they did nothing wrong aside from spraying too close to the wall.
