Default Tuscan Leather worth it in 2019?

Just wanted some opinions on if the "reformulated" Tuscan Leather is worth a purchase. If not, worth tracking down a vintage bottle? Better alternatives? Discuss and would love some information. Relatively new, appreciated all.

I think it's still good and worth buying but you may want to consider sampling the following before buying a bottle:

    1) Tuscan Leather Intense (just released)

    2) Tom Ford Ombre Leather (like TL minus the raspberry, smoother, easier to wear)
    Currently wearing: Lui by Guerlain

I’ll definitely check them out, sample all 3 and see which one I prefer. Tried a sample of TL at a store, 2016 batch I believe. Smelled great, loved it. Didn’t seem to get that “best mode” though. Smelled it on my skin still the next day, just didn’t project very long.

I don't think it's worth looking for vintage. And I agree that ombre leather is close enough as to be a substitute.

There are many leather perfumes around, and while I appreciate it, TL is not my favorite leather. But I cannot say that other leathers are substitutes, they are simply different and add other notes. Nonetheless, if you have not smelled other leather perfumes, perhaps you can try checking a couple others before committing to an expensive purchase. Depending on what you have access to, things you can check are Knize Ten, Dior Leather Oud, Chanel Cuir de Russie, Piguet Bandit (plus niche ones like ELdO Rien).

It is not reformulated, and yes it is if the leather is what you are looking for.

I smelled Tuscan Leather and Ombré Leather side by side recently at Nordstrom - if the price doesn’t matter to you, go for the TL, but honestly OL is nearly as good and far less expensive.

    Better alternatives IMO.

I would advise seeking out an earlier bottle if possible for a reasonable price. The stuff available now has been watered down a bit.

Honestly neither formulation tickle my fancy.

Hermes Bel Ami is currently my favourite leather. Works well in the heat too. In fact it's quite versatile.

Really like both TL and OL. TL is the nicer of the two in my opinion.

Is it twice the price nicer? Not sure but I wouldn't be without a bottle.

As Rum says Bel Ami is very nice as is Knize Ten.

I recently purchased: Rasasi - La yuqawam pour homme. Identical to TL, bit more raspberry in my opinion. Good performance en longveity, for less than half the price of TL.

If you really want Tuscan Leather none of these replacement leather fragrances will satisfy. Ombre Leather 16 or even Tuscan Leather Intense! don't have the raspberry sweetness that the original has. And going for better leathers just because they're better leathers kind of misses the point as well.

You might try La Yuqawam by Rasasi or another of the Tuscan Leather type fragrances out there. They won't be quite the obscene cash grab as the Tom Ford, but there will be differences in quality and how the notes are highlighted.

I can't imagine that securing an older bottle of Tuscan Leather will either be easy or an inexpensive proposition but if you decide to go down that route because you want the foghorn of the original version than by all means, good luck.

100% yes. Sure, Ombre Leather is more "wearable" but it is not nearly as statement-making.

    TL is a masterpiece.

Yes, it's worth it if it's at the discounters. Even if you find an alternative, your nose will pick out the differences later on in your fragrance journey. Ombre Leather is cheaper, but it's more synthetic and less sweet.

I've always found Tuscan Leather unbalanced. It's striking, but I don't think the composition quite clicks together.

As far as I'm concerned, Ombré Leather (I have the private blend OL 16 release, but the 2018 release isn't much different) is more refined and intriguing than its predecessor.

Since Tuscan Leather’s debut in 2007 there had been a slew of copycats /contenders, with little tweaks here and there to differentiate themselves from the original. You might want to check out this old thread & sample some of them to see if you like them better than the Tom Ford.

    It's definitely a Marmite scent.

You'll either love it or hate it.

It's the former for me (I like Marmite too).

I would agree with that, but with the caveat that I'd still rather wear TL. There's just something incredible about that neon-bright fruity leather that makes me want to bathe in the stuff. It's a bit like eating a slice of cake that's 80% frosting, but there's something indulgent about it that I love.

if you have a lot of money buy Clive Christian C for men it's the upscale clone of TL and I love both fragrances (CCC & TL) more than all my other leathers.

Regarding the Ombre, does anyone think it has longevity issues? The three or four times I've sampled, it seems to only last a couple hours on me. TL may be worth it if it has better longevity.

My bottle--which, again, is the OL 16 Private Blend release--lasts for ages on me. I thought consensus was that the 2018 stuff performed just as well.

I know there have been complaints that newer bottles of TL don't perform adequately.
