    Default Fragrance as Pre-workout?

This thought just occurred to me. Are there any fragrances that you find so invigorating, you apply it right before the gym for increased performance? If you don't go to the gym, what fragrances give you a kick like caffeine or cocaine (I have no first-hand experience with the latter)? Do such smells even exist?

i use Creed Viking as my workout fragrance. because Vikings were strong. and it smells like Axe deodorant. like, really really good Axe deodorant. i find the peppermint/cinnamon/peppercorn combo to be bracing and invigorating.

I’ll stick to caffeine. I tend not to wear fragrances before the gym anyway, and I don’t think sniffing the lid, etc. would really give me much of a kick or be uplifting for more than a few seconds.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

If I do wear a fragrance it's usually something from earlier in the day. I don't throw something on for pre-workout or workout.

I typically don't wear a fragrance to work out or run/walk, but if I do, it's usually some kind of cheap, light citrus-heavy scent.

When I was younger and went to the gym, fragrance for me was only after the gym workout and the shower.

Same for me. When I go to the gym, whatever remnants are on me from the morning shower and work is all I do. On rare occasion I may apply a small spritz of something just to freshen up, but never for invigoration. That part is all mental.

I stick to my SOTD, I don’t change scent for gym. If I go there on a weekend, the first thing in the morning, I keep it very light or wait until I’ve showered.

I never find wearing a fragrance to the gym appropriate, but if there is something that gives me a certain kick sometimes, it's something spicy and peppery. Creed Viking was mentioned here, which is a good one.
I assume that's what you're looking for. Something too boost up your adrenaline and not necessarily good fragrances for the gym, right?

Have never worn fragrances before working out and only wearing deodorant while actually working out, while preferring regular coffee rather than fragrance for a caffeine kick (not just before working out).
However, should fragrances be a viable solution as pre-workout stimulant and appropriate to be worn on this occasion-even if personally would still not wear a fragrance before working out just the same-anyone else is free to do so.

I would never ever apply any fragrance prior to the gym, maybe a little re-application of deodorant. If someone were to hypothetically apply anything pre-workout, which they should not do, go for a light fresh scent or citrus. Apply lightly.

Damn, I need to get some more pre-workouts... just been using RTD stuff like Bang for a while, which is nice and dandy - but I do like having something like White Rapids too.
As far as frags? uhh, I dunno, I guess something suitable for Summer/hot weather; like Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee or some other refreshing/invigorating type frag. But I lift at home with my own equip, so I basically wear whatever I happen to have on (SOTD, testing, whatever).

As someone who was a gymrat for quite a while, I couldn't stand when I could smell a fragrance on someone else.

It just seemed wildly out of place. A gym should smell like a gym.

...na, this seems an odd idea to me. And maybe a bit concerning.

Have you thought that maybe you're stuck in a bit of an endorphin-cycle of smelling perfumes, particularly new ones? And that this excitement, novelty, and sensory stimulation is providing what appears to be something like motivation and heightened ability to exercise?

In my opinion, fragrances shouldn't really be giving you a 'kick'...the only time that happens is when I huff too close or too much, and get lightheaded/have what appears to be an allgeric reaction. For a 'lift', any clean fragrance I suppose helps me in a way, likewise a rich oriental gives me a 'boost' of sorts with its opulence. But not in a physiological way. More in a 'completed the outfit and ready to go' way.

Genuinely, I reckon this could be a good moment to stop and think whether your relationship to fragrance is 'good' and under control. Sniffing fragrances in order to give you a caffeine-like boost is a pretty mad idea, let's be honest. If you want an aroma to 'centre' you, I suppose use some sort of soap, moisteuriser, light deodorant if that helps? But really, this feels like overthinking something.

If we're talking post-gym, I get that, but this is a bit of a worrying post tbh and, without wanting to shame you or be a twat about it, I reckon it's one where stepping outside the bubble of basenotes is useful. What would your colleagues/family think, or even the general public, when reading the idea of using perfume as a pre-workout physical boost?

    100% true.
To add to that, I'm pretty locked in when I'm there. Some strong fragrance wafts by and completely takes me out of my focus.
That and people singing along to their earbuds or people's earbuds are so loud, I can hear them over the music I have playing in my earbuds.

I know some think it's a deadly sin, but I shower and put a spritz or two of D&G Light Blue on before the gym. It's just about the only time I wear it. It's energizing to me. 🙂

Good points. There are some very minty soaps and lotions out there that are quite invigorating. They're quite abundant. Irish Spring and Axe have said products, off the top of my head. I know there are a few deodorants like that as well.
Caffeine, I think there is a lotion out there that has it in the ingredients, but I don't remember the name.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

It seems as though the consensus is that most of you do not apply fragrance before the gym, specifically. I guess I'll stick to caffeine as well. Still, please feel free to discuss any fragrances that you find invigorating and that "boost up your adrenaline." Thanks for the comments!

There's no consensus, it's just that the ones who don't wear it tend to shout louder about what is the "correct" thing to do than those who do it, ha! Have a quick search and you'll see some of the apoplexies these threads have caused in the past.

I wear stuff to the gym, not as a pre-workout mind (all that stuff is bollocks anyway, might as well have a strong cup of black coffee instead). But what I wear depends on what time of day it is, what training I'll be doing, and how I apply it - a spray of vintage Kouros on your belly under your top is perfectly fine if you're deadlifting in a secluded corner of the gym on a Sunday morning. People just assume you're going to be wearing something strong in the middle of some aerobics class or whatever!

I apply whatever I am wearing that day fairly heavily right before the gym.
Leaving in 2 minutes for a Chest/Triceps workout and wearing Roja Kuwait.
Have had several workouts when smelling my wrist was the only thing that got me through.
There are people in the gym with poor diets, Hygiene issues, and and possible washing machine malfunctions.
The stench can quite literally affect a workout.
