Sticks around a fair bit - good in the heat and humidity - needed a few top up sprays - but it doesn't get squished in the heat - s'like a lazy EDP haha doesn't all turn up for work

Here are my thoughts. The opening and 4-5 hours in the vintage has distinctive fringe nuances that, IMO, comes from truly natural ingredients. Like how a fruit has more than just the fruit smell, but also has the smell of the pits/seeds, leaves and other components within. The resulting scent after 5 hours, when the nuances burn out, finally smells like the modern vintage. So, basically the modern version is more muted and smells like the final dry down retreat of the vintage.

In the opening 25 mins I swear there is even some green oakmoss that is raw and even a streak of the 'dirty' element that I detect in Creed's Bois du Portugal, which makes the opening lavender of BdP smell 'dirty'. Same type of 'dirty' streak in the opening of Egoiste. These nuances and pronounced components make the vintage Egoiste unmistakable. I totally understand why people who want to keep the way the original smelled are upset over what the modern version smells like. The modern version smells like someone 'cleaned up' and eliminated all the natural scent by-products of the plant extracts and have only the 'clean'/pure chemical-analog smelling note composition then 'sweetened it up' a bit. Do both have a core profile shared? Yes. But the vintage has those very distinct nuances which are not in the modern reform.

To be honest, these are so different in the opening, I'm not sure which is better. I realize the vintage is 'technically' superior, but I have to say that the modern reform was done, I think, with one purpose in mind, 1. To modernize Egoiste, 2. Smooth it out, 3. Shape it down to 'only' the nose-pleasing aspects and remove the impurities that non-enthusiasts would dislike.

I've only smelled/known the modern version, so smelling the vintage is a bit jarring. The strength of the opening is not exaggerated by those that describe it. The vintage also smells to be focused at a completely different 'era' than the modern reform.

I totally understand the reformulation and the purpose, but it would make more sense to make a flanker of Egoiste to modernize it rather than change the original so much. I actually like both for different reasons and would actually recommend the modern version for the office or for social events due to the clean, appealing smoothness, but I think the vintage would be better for for Spring and Fall and for the outdoors/parks.

This one is lovely. If I wasn't already in love with Royal Water then this one would be my lemony summer reach.
