I had fun with the last set. I would give this one a try. Opinions seemed all over the place with the last set, more than normally.

It was good fun reading all the comments in last year's Speed Smelling box pass, but not a single one of the described scents made me want to own a bottle.

I'll bet it's fun for the perfumers, too, getting a chance to show off the tricks they can do.

-And from the master, Dominique Ropion, an interpretation of the portentous and powerful Mandragora plant that uses
cutting edge molecular analysis to recreate its fruity, leathery aroma with a surprisingly delightful bubblegum twist

I agree, fun to smell (at least once) and probably fun to make, but the PR and packaging seem to exceed the quality and finish of the compositions.

Rasquinet's offering is Bouquet of Blossoms and Barbies.

I've often wondered how they achieve that "plastic doll head" smell that you enounter in modern perfumes (too frequently). I like to fantasize that they have a bottle on their perfumer's organ marked "Hasbro" or "Mattell".

What a wonderful name your SOTD has, grayspoole. "Tailspin" -- that's just marvelous. But maybe not if you're a pilot.

LiveJazz wore it earlier this week and inspired me to haul out my bottle. It IS an odd name, especially for a perfume launched in 1940. I guess it was a thing though, since I just found this film from 1939 about female aviatrices that I now need to watch.

And here's an ad that seems to interpret "tailspin" quite literally...

They were fun to try last year, and it was great to read the passers' reviews. But overall it's quite pricey considering very few of them come across as full perfumes. Most seem partial or experiments. It was a great experience even so.

Oh, I'm glad I inspired you to wear it! I think Papsy in turn inspired me to wear it, and the circle of life continues. Odd name, rather odd scent too. I wonder if the odd mineralic tarry/soapy note is an intentional reference to something related to aviation, or if it just turned out that way. It's not something I'd smelled in a feminine of that era.

Anyway, the IFF sampler - I tend to agree the value for the money is questionable. There were a couple of creations from the last one I really enjoyed, and some of the rest were interesting. A couple were painful. Best looked at as a sniffing exercise, I think: It was fun reading about the captives and creative processes, even if I didn't like some of the results.
