Default Why is your favorite genre your favorite?

    Citrus? Woody? Gourmand? Oriental?

What do you love about it?

Oriental leaning towards gourmand. My nose isn't as perceptive or at least as trained as some to pick out delicate notes. I find the deeper tones easy to enjoy.

Dry woody and incense, because my personal preferences are clearly objective facts and it is a fact that this is the best kind of perfume

That, and these are some of the smells that I probably most enjoy outside of perfume.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.

I enjoy piney, woody scents as I find them unmistakably masculine.

I like a good strong woody. Feels masculine, and they are usually not as sweet.

In the summer, perhaps green things (florals, vetiver, etc)-I'm not a fan of marine or modern freshies, but green notes can work very well for me.

when it's colder, leathers. Warm and usually long lasting.

I guess it depends - if I had to choose a "genre" of fragrance that isn't specifically built around one type of note, I would go with chypre. I'm still slowly getting a feel for what chypres are, since there is so much variation, but it keeps coming up in regards to stuff I like. I really enjoy the citrus/moss/green resin combo.

If we're talking about fragrances generally built around prominent notes, I'd say vetiver, sharp/dry/funky wood and leather. Vetiver is probably my favorite because it's one of the best things for combining with my own skin chemistry. Someone told me once that vetiver "smells like you, but if you smelled good." I think that's a compliment! Woods I love partly because I grew up in Seattle and piney, woodsy smells are very nostalgic for me - I did a lot of camping/hiking as a kid. I'm counting oud in that group as the "funky" woods. Leather - I dunno, I just love it! I'll peruse in a leather goods store just to take in the smell. It's an interesting mix of natural and industrial.

My tastes have broadened massively since becoming a BNer, but my go-to genre always has been and remains pungent herbal / aromatic / balsamic jus, which were in abundance when I was reaching my majority.

I'm a sucker for straight up eau de colognes and hesperidic perfumes, as well. If I found a deal on a liter of Guerlain Imperial I'd seriously consider it ...

I love florals, animalic bases, aromatics citruses, and creative abstract synthetics. Barbershops are great when I shave, and the "man's man" heavy moss bombs are a fun way to scare people around me when I'm out and about.

Orientals would be my favorite genre. Chypre would be a close second.

l love tropical white florals most of all, especially gardenia, tuberose & jasmine. Mainly because l just adore the way they smell, but also because they allow me to indulge my fantasies of escaping to exotic, far away places with white sandy beaches, palm trees, etc.

lf these notes are combined with amber, incense, sandalwood or animalic notes, so much the better for being more interesting, & wearable in winter.

Chypres, citruses, leathers, gourmands, tobacco, vetivers and powerhouses (or powerhouse renditions of all of the aforementioned) are so far the personal favorites, mainly because nearly each scent in these particular categories/typologies has all degrees of complexity, craftiness and pure beauty have been constantly searching for in an fragrance.

Oriental.... I don't think I can accurately explain why this is so, my favorite. Perhaps it is the dark. Rich notes. Amber and sweetness. The mysteriousness. Some Orientals are hard to explain as is, my love for such creatures.

I'm generally drawn to spicy-woody-gourmand masculines, particularly if they have a tobacco note. When I was in my very early adolescence, I toured a cigar factory in Havana and handled raw tobacco leaves. Since then, I've been fascinated by the aroma and textures of tobacco, and it's the dominant note in my fragrance collection.

Probably a spicy oriental. One w a base of incense and or amber and patchouli. Maybe something leaning towards gourmand.

Fresh fragrances, particularly mint based and those with citrus and ginger, and also pink pepper are my favorite “genre” of fragrances. I enjoy these because they’re uplifting, invigorating, and not so heavy as to feel stuffy or cloying in work and daily wear situations. They also suit my personality. I’d say I’m more of a “bright” personality as opposed to a dark or brooding personality.

I have similar preferences, although I can still appreciate a freshie from time to time. I'd say leathers and orientals are my preference. Although, I am still learning my personal tastes as I am quite new to the hobby. Thanks for the posts, everyone!
