Default Vintage Gengis Khan sample pass

Ladies and gentlemen, thanks to Bavard, we have a new sample pass of Gengis Khan (probably most famously known here as hednic's favorite fragrance).
Are you curious to sample and willing to opine in this thread?
The sample pass is open to U.S. members who have made at least 200 posts and joined BN at least 6 months ago.
Post your interest below, and the first 10 responders will be put on the list.
Those who already have GK are invited to share their impressions, too.
And, hednic, maybe we can get you to write more than a one-sentence post?

Ah, too bad this is for the US only, I'd love to get my nose on the scent! Will be watching this thread with interest nevertheless.

Although this fragrance is a mainstay on the Scent of the Day threads, it's fairly rare in real life, in particular the vintage edt in this sample pass (it was re-released as an edp). I added it to an order from overseas to get free shipping, an $80 savings that made it seem like a good deal. Hopefully there's interest to try it and post impressions. I can send out multiple decants, so there's no obligation to ship your sample to someone else.

Thank you so much to Quarry for hosting the thread! I had long been curious to try this fragrance, and I have agreed with her inquiries for more detailed impressions from the few who have tried it.

Tragically, I miss the six month cutoff, but I look forward to reading the reactions from others here.

I'll give a few pings to some of my females pals if they're interested, see if we can get an equal representation.

I've just sent out PMs to grayspoole, Kotori, and Zephyr1973.

I've heard from Brooks, Zealot, and Shiny, perfect gentlemen, and the lovely Hazel5.

The sprayer works as well as any I've used for decanting. Pretty much zero loss.

These first six should arrive within a week.

Bavard's parcel arrived today, and I gleefully sprayed on some Genghis Khan!

I hadn't read any in-depth reviews, and so my impressions of what this scent would be were mostly formed by 1) the nifty branding and packaging and 2) my mental image of Hednic! So I was somewhat surprised to find that this isn't really a scent that's evocative of its namesake, and is more of a richly rendered woody-spicy chypre thing with a lovely herbal heart (and I love herbal notes).

Genghis Khan might have fit right in in the Aramis lineup; there's a little kinship with both Tuscany and Havana, though the quasi-aquatic "cool" undercurrent here connects it with New West (though it's more interesting and satisfying than New West).

I so agree about Havana. Interesting about Tuscany. I'll have to think about that. Another fragrance that to me smells like Havana and Gengis Khan is Montana Parfum d'Homme. These are the favorites of Basenoter's kbe, hednic, and Monsieur Montana, respectively.

And overall Gengis Khan is a thumbs up for me. It smells like a good quality, interesting vintage fragrance. Lots of notes. A warm spicy feel, mixed with the higher pitched notes that it has in common with Havana.

The more it sits on my skin, the more it skews towards Havana; there was just something about the herbal cocktail in Genghis Khan that brought Tuscany to mind for a phase of its development.

It's a definite thumbs-up from me as well. Very well-made with some nice nuance, and it seems to be manifesting the kind of interesting development you find regularly in older fragrances but has practically disappeared from contemporary releases (fragrances both at high and low ends of the market tilt ever towards linearity).

I'm now curious as to what the current EDP smells like.

Genghis Khan has been on my test radar for years. Plus I've generally been enjoying this style of fragrance lately. Plus...I hear hednic happens to own and enjoy this one. Love you hednic.

Uh-oh. That gulping sound you hear is Hednic swallowing his gum.

Were you aware that Aramis is Hednic's only perfume nemesis?

No! I have very little awareness of Hednic lore.

I don't want to twist the knife into Hednic, but as this presses into the drydown the resemblance to Aramis New West (which arrived the year before Genghis Khan) gets stronger.

So do I. I just think it's amusing that the very first comparison that gets made in a Gengis Khan pass is to Aramis. Hopefully Hednic will find it amusing too.
