Default Help Me Choose a Perfume for My Wedding!

    Hi All,

I’m looking for some suggestions for a perfume to wear for my wedding. I would like to splurge on something extra special (by that I mean probably buying a decant!) that will match the style of my wedding, and will remind me of my wedding day when I smell it again.

    Here’s some inspiration:

-It’s a winter wedding (early December)
-Reception is in a rustic pub, ceremony is in a large traditional Catholic Church
-Color are blues and forest green with pops of red
-Flowers/decor are white roses and tulips, blue delphiniums, lots of red winter berries, red amaryllis and sprigs of cedar, lots of little candles and tea lights
-Overall style is rustic, Snow White, winter wonderland, woodsy

Types of fragrances I already love:

    -Angel
    -Lolita Lempicka
    -L’Air du Desert Marocain
    -Bronze Goddess
    -Alien
    -Cacharel Noa
    -Hypnotic Poison
    -Bvgari Black

I like niche fragrance a lot too but I always feel out of the loop and haven’t smelled enough to know what’s out there so any insight would be super helpful. I am also willing to pull away from the heavy oriental types as well, to try something new.

Let me know if these ideas bring any fragrances in mind! Thanks for your help!

Hi Lauren O! (Hello from an original Illinoisian.) Are you near Chicago? If so, you can test a lot.

I have some thoughts around your winter wedding fragrance.

For that winter crisp/cold aesthetic, try Diptyque Eau Duelle (Barney’s or Neiman should have it), which is similar to Bvlgari Black in its dark vanilla vibe, but has a sheerer vanilla, no vinyl note, and a note of juniper for that out in the cold feeing.

For some white warmth, try Cuir Beluga by Guerlain (@Sak’s Chicago), which is a vanilla suede.

For a white floral like Alien, if you like tuberose, I think Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle (Barney’s, Neiman) would be a great choice for a bride. It’s this clean, perfect, crystalline white floral.

Also a riff on Bvlgari Black is Tabacco Toscano by Santa Maria Novella (Merz Apothecary has it). It’s a tobacco vanilla with a lot of that cKOne style of freshness on top.

Also for lovers of Jasmine, there’s the incredibly soft and discrete Jasmin d’Anges by Dior (Sak’s).

Finally, because you love LADDM, a big oriental I love is Coromandel by Chanel (Chanel boutique). It’s a smooth, polished oriental based on patchouli and white chocolate with a few spices. Very beautiful and rich.
My only regrets in life are the people I haven't stood up for,
and the perfumes I've thrown away.

Seconding Carnal Flower. l find it even more beautiful on frosty winter days than at other times of the year.

L'Eau d'Hiver (winter water) could be lovely, too.

Okay...obviously I'm not a woman, but from the description of your reception, the time of year, and the decor, etc. I think Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens would be an amazing choice for either you or your intended. Of course, I think it's a heavenly fragrance and I may be a little biased. Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS!!! A happy and long life together is wished for the both of you!

My favourite rose perfume of all time:

It includes a large amount of very high quality, natural rose.

Is your betrothed also a person who appreciates and wears fragrance?

The reason I ask is because every time somebody poses this question about a wedding fragrance, I always think how nice it would be if both halves of the couple picked a unisex scent that they both admired, and both wore the same fragrance. It's always seemed like a very romantic idea to me, and like it would be a pleasant thing for the guests, too, seeing them presenting a united image to the world.

    Definitely.

"We use the same perfume. Itís called Yatagan, itís by Caronóitís not very popular. Itís hard to find over here, so we used to buy it in these great big flacons and keep it in the fridgeóthatís what we were told to do. We like it very much. Also, when I was younger, I used to use Mitsouko a lot at night, which is this very exotic odor made by Guerlain. I donít remember if the formula has changed or if I have changed, but something has changedóand Iím always in a hurry anyways, so I just slap on the Yatagan and everybody seems to like it."

Beautiful suggestions already here but I’ll put one in anyway: Chanel Nį 22. It’s magical in coldest weather.

    Congratulations!

If Iris Apfel does it, that's all the stamp of approval I need. She's definitely one of the coolest people on the planet.

That’s a cool idea! He does enjoy fragrance, but definitely isn’t as fanatical as I can be. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I’ll have to try these out. A couple have been on my list forever.
