Default Looking for something different but versatile

    Hi all,

First day here but been lurking for quite some time. You'll have to bear with me as my descriptive abilities are somewhat poor, I haven't yet built the nose to describe specific scents.

I've been looking for something different that I can use on occasions. Something a little versatile that sits on the smart casual spectrum (not for the office), good for lunch / dinner, out shopping or to the cinema, something upmarket and a strong performer (I know this varies) without blowing people's faces off.

Most of the bottles I have seems to lean on the evening / winter side of things but it's simply because that's what I like. I love leathers, woods, a bit of oud, bergamot, a bit of sweetness though too.

Dislikes would be anything sporty / overly citrus.

My daily wears recently have been MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver and Masculin Pluriel. Both outstanding to me. I'm adding Aventus next too (I really didn't want to like it but did). These will all work perfectly for my office.

I kinda like the idea of having an oud geared more toward the daytime. I've tried the MFK Ouds. All nice enough but something didn't click. Something I also really liked was CH Mystery Tobacco but I'm not sure it's really all that versatile. Also loved Journey Man but I have the same versatility concerns.

Sorry for weird description - I'm still a bit new to this. Just looking for some suggestions on something I may not have yet tried as you all seem so knowledgable.

    Desert Suave from Liquides Imaginaires.

I would have said Pryn Turkish Leather but that is discontinued.

Ambre Loup from Rania J is a very good (real) amber animalic and wonderful. If you want an amber focused fragrance and oud this is a good one.

Maybe Creed Royal Oud is something you'd dig.

Also adding, in no particular order:

    Creed BDP
Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme
Santos de Cartier and also Declaration by the same house
    Lalique Homme EDP
    Habit Rouge EDP
TF Man and/or Man Extreme, possibly also Noir de Noir
at least one from the Memo Paris fragrance house, especially from the Les Echapees line, like e.g. Siwa, Moon Fever and/or Luxor Oud

some of these closer to powerhouse/beast mode rather than versatile, therefore likelier to be perceived as statement making, a bit perhaps too noticeably showy and even overpowering rather than versatile.
Yet others among these list have the nowadays increasingly rare ability to be both versatile and more than decent, even outstandingly good in terms of projection and longevity while remaining quite versatile, balanced and gentlemanly subtle.

Lalique Hommage a l'Homme would work as a versatile oud for both daytime and evening - the oud is very quiet. It's one hell of a classy scent that could easily be someone's signature.

yea the original MFK Oud is one of my very favorite fragrances, and it's very universally liked and versatile to wear. however, the other ouds in his line (Cashmere, Velvet) are pretty hard-core. the other two, Silk and Satin, are quite sweet and cloying on me.

if you want an easy oud to wear - something different/distinctive, but also very wearable and will garner compliments - try ROJA's Qatar. it's a real sparkling, light oud. one of the only ouds i reach for during the day in the heat.

I've just ordered the sample set from Rania J. 26 euros for the full set is incredible value. I also like the sound of some of the other options.

Creed Bois du Portugal, Guerlain Heritage, and Chanel Egoiste would be good choices.
