Default What do you wear purely for yourself?

Either home alone, or when you just don't give a damn what other people think?

For me, Tom Ford Tobacco Oud is my indulgence.

Most if not all of the entire current (as well as the past) fragrance lineup does get a significant amount of wearing at home/in privacy/for oneself.

While compliments are always a great added bonus for oneself and wearing socially acceptable scents can be a similar enjoyment/delight/point of interest etc. for others, wearing fragrances mainly or even entirely for oneself does quite simply, easily and pleasantly make it possible to value fragrance in significantly more and exciting ways.

Apart from the fact that I basically wear my entire wardrobe for myself (which isn’t really what the OP is getting at).

    Songe d’un Bois d’Ete

Not that it’s especially animalic or offensive or anything. There’s just something about it it where I kind of need to be in a IDGAF about how those around me might feel mood. With most of the rest of my wardrobe I will take into more consideration how it might affect those around me, so while I’m not looking for crowd pleasers or fishing for compliments with my other scents I do take others into more consideration.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Vintage Kouros. I wear it a lot on lazy weekends when I just want to enjoy smelling myself.

I don't even think it's all that animalic or offensive in the context of many other things I've smelled. It's literally a comfort scent for me, and I crave it like a drug.

I work in an office, so I use consideration when choosing a scent for work, but otherwise wear all of my fragrances for myself. That said, my wife avoids me when I wear Dior Leather Oud, if that counts.

    Everything.

Self-consciousness will destroy your soul. When you're self-conscious you're really just showing symptoms that you don’t know who you are. The only reason you should wear a fragrance is because you like it.

You gotta feel as good as you possibly can while you can. Do it.

Just to chime in with everyone else, I wear whatever I'm in the mood for, but I'm certainly aware that many of my scents are probably not mass appealing.
The ones that I think of as "challenging", do tend to stray quite heavily into the animalic territories.

Bogue Maai, Knize Ten, ALD Siberian Musk, Lebreton's L'eau Scandaleuse... All heavy scents that I love, but probably would turn off most of your normal non-fragheads.
Now that I think about it, the only one I've really stopped and said... "well hold on now, not today" is SH's Sixes and Sevens, and not because it is animalic, but because the cumin note is so pronounced, I don't want to give off the impression I'm covering up the body funk.

So yeah, I'd say Sixes and Sevens is the only one I'm really self conscious of, and would wear just for me.

I have no problems wearing any of my fragrances in public. That being said, some I wear for my enjoyment only, and I would say most of my ouds fall in that category.

In the spirit of upstream replies,

I concur that I do wear everything that I wear because at that moment I want to wear it. I do have filters that I apply when on duty at work or around the family (some have acquired allergies recently) but otherwise anything is game.

That being said, I'll admit that I rarely wear Giorgio Beverly Hills pour Homme (1984), aka 'Giorgio for Men', anywhere aside from my atelier or when outside for a walk or a ride.

That stuff is nuclear ... and fantastic :-D

Tuscan Leather, Versace Oud Noir and Gucci Guilty Absolute are all fragrances that I end up wearing more often as my SOTE when I'm home for the night. Not that I don't wear them out, but I do like overspraying when I'm at home.
