    Default Favorite violet fragrance?

I'm looking for a fragrance with a prominent violet note and not too much else - some other supporting characters are fine, but something with violet front and center. My mom loves violet and I want to get her something as a gift.

Plain old straight-up violet soliflore is Santa Maria Novella Violetta

    Another is Penhaligon's Violetta

A good one is Parfums de Nicolai Violette in Love

The traditional reference violets are Borsari Violetta di Parma and Berdoues Violettes de Toulouse. The Grasse houses of Molinard and Fragonard have violet scents, too.

For a more modern one, Guerlain Insolence is nice.

    +1

Violet and leather, well done leather.

April Violets by Yardley - cheap as chips, but traditional scent
Sol de Oro Agua de Violetas Violet Water Cologne - sprayed on babies in Cuban communities. Parma violet scent and also cheap
    Bruise Violet - Sixteen92
Insolence - Guerlain. Red berry jam notes with violet- one spray is plenty!
Lipstick Rose - Frederick Malle. Perfect 'makeup' scent
Mein Herr Marquis - Sixteen92. Sister scent to Bruise Violet
Momenti : Sweet Parmesan Violet - Hilde Soliani Profumi. Two notes - violet and sugar.
My Queen - Alexander McQueen. No longer available but some sample places carry it.
    Violette In Love - Nicolai
Drôle de Rose - L'Artisan Parfumeur. I really just need to buy a bottle of this.
Putain des Palaces - Etat Libre d'Orange
Splendiris - Parfums Dusita. I loved this on paper, not on my skin. Your mileage may vary.

Can you tell I love violet perfumes!

If you are looking for a blind buy I would recommend Drôle de Rose or Momenti : Sweet Parmesan Violet (sophisticated parma violet scent).

This is a good one. I also like these:

Violette Fumee by Mona d Orio: This is a very nice Viollette fragrance.

Black Violets by Tom Ford: Discontinued by available on eBay at times.

Ajjacio Violets by Geo F Trumper: This is all violets but includes the green violet stems as well as the flowers. Also, this is more a masculine than a feminine fragrance IMO.

Thanks for the great recommendations everyone! Kitty2Shoes, I just read your review of Sweet Parmesan Violet, sounds like that might be perfect - my mom loves Choward violet candies, so if it's similar to that it should fit the bill.

Also adding l'Erbolario Viola and incidentally, my mother happens to like violet scents very much and enjoys wearing not just classic feminine and unisex violet choices, but even the officially masculine but technically quite unisex Grey Flannel.
She does enjoy this note but not overly sweet fragrances, therefore surprised that the sweetness in Grey Flannel is just sufficient and balanced enough to be wearable and enjoyable for her.

Not saying that either of these two are ideal recommendations, yet based on personal experience so far, they turned out to be quite inspired and enjoyed violet scent gifts.

Yes, this one is a winner. Also Violette Preciuese by Caron is a great classic violet forward scent.

Ho, wait—I thought you liked Green Irish Tweed.

I'd expect that one to be your default reply here.

    It is for me.

(It's no violet soliflore, tho, which is what the OP is after. Has anyone voted for Grey Flannel yet?)

Violets fan here! I've had a number of them over the years and gradually have pared down my collection.

Is your mom loves Choward's violets candies, my top recommendation is Annick Goutal La Violette.
There is a little bit of rose in there too, but it's not prominent.

I used to like Berdoues Violettes de Toulouse but in the end the fruity raspberry note was not right for me. I owned Penhaligon's Violetta but the violet leaf note was a bit too green for my taste and I sold it. I think it may be discontinued.

Way back decades ago I loved Yardley April Violets, but it was reformulated and to me nowadays it's a little funky.

A male friend who is a horticulturist thinks SMN Violetta is the truest.

Plus 1 Yardley, Insolence and her many flankers, and I still like Violette Precieuse despite reformulation. Adding Lalique Le Baiser, although the rose is also prominent.

Great suggestions everyone, thanks! I did make my mom smell my arm when I was wearing Fahrenheit to see if it would fit the bill, but she was too turned off by the petrol note. Maybe I'll give her a decant anyway to try to win her over

I do like GIT but I think Fahrenheit is better on the violet note, while GIT has me with it's verbena and ambergris.

Probably "Daisy" by Marc Jacobs, the original one.

Honestly, though, I also agree with "Insolence" by Guerlain. That one smells great!
