Default No-Buy September (formerly No-Buy August)

Alright, I need to slow down and work through some of the stuff I have, so I'm declaring August a no-buy month for myself, meaning no new bottles and no new decants or samples (swaps are okay, though).

Anyone else wanna join me in solidarity?

Will respectfully pass on that request.

Joining. I actually did pretty good in July (one bottle, one mini, a few decants), but want to focus even more on what I have, especially since I have a TON of samples to get to right now. Also, I want a new mountain bike, and those suckers ain't cheap.

Come to think of it, I need to do some wardrobe pruning, too.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen. Though, I slowed down considerably after May. Only bought a mini and a 15 ml in June-July, and sold 4 bottles.

Hey, I’ll join you. The pending deliveries for purchases already made in July should easily make up for this ‘temporary restraining order’ lol.

sure. I was not planning on buying anything anyways during the hot months of shipping.

Been doing this for almost a year now. Might get a sample here and there, but no full bottles.

I'll enlist. Did pretty well this year, though, averaging less than a bottle a month, and only have one July purchase pending arrival. And like debussy, I don't like shipping during the hottest months.

And like LJ, I'd like to prune the wardrobe, get it down to just the 4- and 5-star rated. Maybe donate excess samples to the Newbie forum.

    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

I was on a few months hiatus and did a sample haul for my birthday in July. I'm back on the no buy for a few months again.

I enjoyed going back through my sample collection and trying some over again. I also 'pruned' as you said what I already own.

Same, i've got an MFK and Roja in the mail i've been wanting for awhile now and finally just decided to pull the trigger on. Oud Silk Mood and Roja Aoud. I'll be more than happy to indulge in these two unbothered.

This is why I stay away from anything I don't think is 4 or 5 stars to my nose. I've got more than enough variety with my 12 bottle collection and even that is a bit of "clutter" in my eyes.

If I bought 3 star stuff, or frags i just "liked" i'd have 50+ and that would drive me crazy

I know I know. That's why I placed a pretty large order to keep my nose active! Seriously though, we're budgeting and the kids aren't cheap! Summer care when schools out hasn't been easy to pay for.

An admirable goal, but I'm going to take it one month at a time! I'm not sure I have the willpower to go the rest of the year.

Lol sort of, been consciously been cutting back, both for financial and 'work through' stuff reasons. Having a bit if a purge after a few days of 'get rid of everything keep ONE' rumination (sacrilege huh!)

Good in theory, but if you're into vintage you can't always sample, and sometimes just have to take a flyer on something that turns out to be >5 stars, resulting in some 3-star clutter. Other times, you just fall out of love with something and it gets downgraded.

We should all do a pinky-swear to come back here at the end of August and 'fess up about how well we stuck to the plan.

I guess I already blew it with an Amouage purchase but that may get refunded due to possible inventory fumble by Harrods. At any rate, I’ll join for the rest of August as the remainder of my July explosion continues to be delivered.
