Default Blackrock buys Authentic Brands Group

In the news, I read that giant private equity firm Blackrock bought a stake and became the largest investor in Authentic Brands Group, which owns brands including Sports Illustrated, Juicy Couture and Nine West, and controls licensing rights of celebrity brands from Muhammad Ali to Marilyn Monroe. Apart from the mention of certain brands that also have perfumes, the interest here in the licensing rights. I don't know which celebrities are in ABG's portfolio, but I bet the weight of Blackrock will mean that other firms will not be able to claim these illustrious users anymore (unless they pay proper price to ABG).

Not sure how sound this is as an investment but Blackrock’s probably looking to grow the next LVMH. As it is ABG owns a somewhat eclectic mix of brands on the fringes. Fragrance-wise I don’t particularly care for stuff from ABG-owned Nautica nor Juicy Couture.

    Likewise.

I just had a look at the Authentic Brands Group website and frankly, not one of the brands appeal to me. If anyone wants to have a look, follow the link and scroll down:
