Default Fragrance SMOTHERED by over spraying?

I've had this odd thing happen with a new fragrance I've purchased (Straight To Heaven Extreme).

When I used one spray on a spot, it smells and projects fine, lasts a good while. But when I overspray (2 or more dense sprays in one spot) the scent becomes muted or smothered it seems. Can barely smell it and it seems almost gone instantly.

Never had that happen with any fragrance (and I've smelled/sampled about 200+).

Anyone else experience this with a fragrance?

Can't say I have ever experienced that.

    Anosmia maybe.

I have that effect with Oud & Bergamot. One spray and I can smell it all day. 2+ and I can hardly smell it.
When I sampled Dior’s Patchouli Imperial the SA sprayer two sprays on the paper and I couldn’t smell a thing after the first 5 seconds.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

That's exactly what's going on with me and this fragrance.

I spray too much and its like I never sprayed it. Can barely smell it.

I sprayed once and I get every note and can smell it for hours.

I agree with Darjeeling-this sounds more like a case of nose fatigue. Too much of some material and the nose blocks it off.

Gotta be nose fatigue as it's impossible to overspray something to the point where it overpowers itself to the point where it gets weakened.

Yes, over-spraying is definitely a thing. Experienced that with a lot of Eau De Parfums. It's like eating hot food you know? If you are eating something super hot (temperature-wise), you probably won't be able to taste the flavours that well. That's how i see it anyway.

I haven't experienced this. For me, multiple sprays in one location strengthens the scent.

So far, apart from some fleeting olfactory fatigue, often happened to notice a quite opposing effect-abundant, even over-spraying managed to reveal more additional facets and subtleties of nearly any fragrance (so far) used/applied

    My bottle just sucked. Period.

I compared it to my sample and the sample performed way better.

These houses selling $300+ fragrances need better quality control.

I still want another bottle, but I'll have to wait until they release more seeing as it's a limited edition. Can't find any right now.

Seems to me like many samples smell better than the actual bottles.

Yep, and that makes me wonder if they make a whole ton of samples when they first produce the frag. Enough that they still have lots of them on hand, and keep sending them out, even after reformulations.

But maybe I'm just being paranoid...

    I wonder. Seems rather unethical.
