Default Help concerning TF Noir EDP, Noir Extreme and Noir EDT; potential buy

I'm thinking about purchasing Tom Ford Noir Extreme, blind - ouch However I'm reading a lot of reviews and it seems that TF Noir Extreme is kind of a hybrid, a mix of YSL La Nuit, JPG Le Male, P.R. 1 Million etc. Unfortunately I'm unable to find samples in Croatia.

In your opinion, what would be the main difference between the three? Are they redundant or all 3 purchase worthy? Now, I know there's Anthracite flanker so I'll just mention it and leave it to you good people share your opinion about this one as well.

In your opinion which one is most versatile, and the least versatile. Most wearable and/or dreadful?

Are any of them even bottle worthy? I'll leave a poll just in case

    Thanks!

Anthracite has nothing to do with the other Noir releases. I think it's excellent and is my favorite of the Noir releases, but it's not a safe blind-buy.

Noir Extreme has nothing whatsoever to do with Le Male or 1 Million or La Nuit. It is a Western interpretation of Middle Eastern components with a bit of tobacco in there, making it the mass-market companion to Tobacco Vanille. It's very nicely done, but the downside is that it is relentlessly linear, so it gives up all its secrets upon the first sniff.

Rather than the other two Noir variants, I'd recommend that you consider Noir pour Femme, which is better than either. It is not any more feminine than Noir Extreme.

Good question. I've wondered the differences myself.

I have also wondered the differences between TF for Men and the Extreme version of that one as well. Not meaning to derail the topic, sorry.

I've tried Noir and Noir Extreme. Liked them but don't think they lasted very long on me. But it was just one wrist spray each, so it could be that.

Brooks, what sets Anthracite apart as a flanker?

Have tried them all, and found TF Noir EDP for me, to be pleasant although not really fond of any of them

I like Noir Anthracite as a modern fougere. If scents like Azzaro Pour Homme and Rive Gauche Pour Homme appeal, then that might be a good one to try.

I also agree that Noir Pour Femme is a better composition than Noir Extreme.

It's entirely an entirely different scent released as a flanker to capitalize on the name. There's no shared DNA between Anthracite and the other Noir releases beyond the fact that it wears "dark."

Noir Anthracite is very dry, smoky, spicy, and woody with a bit of an Asian feeling due to the Sichuan pepper (it smells kinda like pepper being cooked on hot coals). It's kind of a throwback to 1980s powerhouse masculines. I love it, but it's definitely polarizing.

Noir Anthracite is not a modern fougere at all. It's smokey, peppery, and woody.

TF Noir Exteme is great. Don't think you will regret purchasing this one. Own and enjoy.

I own all three (Noir edp not edt) and see no similarity.

    My personal ranking is

    Noir
    Anthracite
    Extreme

    But that's just me.

In the same vein there is no similarity at all between Men and Men Extreme. TFFM really needs a edp or intense version. Same as the edt but better performance.

Putting all these in the same box is a big mistake. They are completely different to each other, and it is like comparing apples to … a beef stake.

Noir Extreme I love. It is sweet vanilla, chocolate, and maybe a little tobacco. It is very different from Le Male, 1 Million and La Nuit. The only thing they have in common is that they are all sweet. In the beginning I thought Noir Femme was even better, but I have changed my mind and now prefer Noir Extreme. There are some spice in Noir Extreme that makes it a bit more masculine, and that is absent in Noir Femme.

I have sampled both Noir and Anthracite, but to my taste they are completely off the board. I could see them fit perfectly on the right person though. There are rumours that Anthracite is being discontinued, so if you like that one you know what to do.

Noir Extreme is excellent. Twilight’s description is spot on. Yes it’s sweet, but don’t let that out you off or lead you to think that it is some sort of hybrid of best sellers.

Anthracite is interesting as a decant, but I wouldn’t bother with a whole bottle. It’s mossy, woody and swampy and introduced by a nice bergamot. It’s one of Tom Ford’s efforts to replicate the smell of a well dressed man’s crotch at the end of the day, and this time he got very close.

The rest were far less interesting to me.

Personally I wasn't impressed by any of them although Noir EDP would be the best of the bunch IMO.

Well, thanks for your help. No blind buy of Noir Extreme I have to admit that the Noir EDP is dark, powdery, mysterious and reminds of A*Men in the drydown, but more intelligently done and refined.

Noir EdP isn't bad at all, but it is quite similar to Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense, and I feel the Prada is a better fragrance (and cheaper, too).

If having to choose and/or to recommend only one of these, would go for TF Noir EDP, while keeping Extreme and/or Anthracite in mind as alternative option (s) worthy of a more than respectable second place fairly equally shared between these two.
While having either too little preference or favorable/conclusive experiences and/or both with the remaining ones for the same fragrance lineup/series.

I have to admit that Noir EDP pleasantly surprised me and the Noir Extreme disappointed me a bit. I know, I know - it's not a cool thing to say BUT it's a 1 Million clone, there I said it

As a fan of Noir Pour Femme, Noir Extreme and the 1 Million series, I really don't see any similarities. I'd rather wear 1 Million or 1 Million Intense over Noir Extreme, however.

I must have a very different sense of smell to everyone else! 30 plus posts about TF Noir and not a single mention of Habit Rouge!

One thing I will agree on is that while Noir EDP and EDT are related, Noir Extreme is something completely different, and Noir Anthracite is something else different again.

Noir EDP, which was the first release, reminded me of my Habit Rouge EDP, with a strong “Palma Violets sweets” note added from the kickoff, which makes it even more powdery than HR. I already had HR EDP, so while I like Noir EDP, I didn’t really need it.

The EDT seems to be all the same notes as the EDP, just with their relative balance adjusted. Oh and massively toned down across the board. It seemed to become a skin scent far too quick. Redundant, really.

Noir Extreme smells like a much smoother Spicebomb to me, with a creamy lactose note in the mix, to achieve that “kulfi” vibe.

Don’t bother asking me what Anthracite smells like, because I recoiled in horror and didn’t spend a nanosecond longer to try and pick out the note combinations! I got a mental image of “pencil lead graphite” and then gave up.

Ah, I get the Spicebomb connection, albeit I find Spicebomb to be a bit more specific. I wonder what effect Spicebomb Extreme will make on me. I'm not exactly a fan, but I do appreciate Spicebomb.

Noir extreme is a more appealing , more fun, gourmandy scent. I have a bottle of this and wear it often at nite.
Noir edp some guys may not enjoy wearing it. It does lean a bit feminine on this one. Some say it is a bit goth in its appeal. I love it too but didnt find a need to buy a bottle of it.
