Default Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche

Based on review I have read here, I was excited to try my sample of Allure Homme Edition Blanche. I read "lemon cream pie" to describe it in numerous reviews. Lemon fragrances are my favorite. When I received my sample and tried it, I was shocked at how little it smelled of lemon at all. In fact, it smelled more like bug spray to me. I hated it. (No offense to those who enjoy it.) Did I get a bad batch? I got it from ebay. Some lemon fragrances that I own and enjoy are Allure Homme Sport Cologne, Dior Cologne and Profumum Roma Acqua Viva. Allure Homme Edition Blanche smells NOTHING like these. Is my sense of smell just off on this fragrance? Does it smell anything like the three I just mentioned to anyone else? I am very curious to hear what others think.

Either your skin didn’t agree with this fragrance or your sample was bad. I would ask for a sample direct from Chanel if your able to, I spray my shirt 4 sprays and get lots of lemon and lemon pie it’s a very nice fragrance.

Yeah, sounds like it went "off". If you didn't pick up on any lemon from it, I would consider getting your hands on a different sample before writing it off completely.

I dunno, I’m always sceptical of fake/“turned” claims for samples - why would anyone fake a sample, and perfume really has to be severely mistreated to “turn” (at least something modern and mostly synthetic like Allure EB). Plus all the Allures have a certain bugspray vibe to them to my nose - it’s the “signature note” in the top of most masculine designer citrus over woods scents. I’d say you probably just don’t like it.

Most likely although not 100% certain admittedly, this might need some additional retesting but also not excluding that the batch might have, without being an expert on this, for some reason gone off/bad/otherwise decreased in its quality.

Although (or maybe precisely because) this is generally advertised and known as one of the most fresh, casual and/or sporty Chanel fragrances, it might nevertheless be a simple scent.
In fact, the more one increases the testings and/or the different quantities used of this one on different occasions, the time not just between but during actual samplings/testings for letting more notes in it unfold, the more it may likely become a more rewarding experience, revealing all its full splendor, complexity and smoothness over time.

Chanel offers free return shipping, so buying a actual bottle isn’t a waste of your time. If you want to sample first they will send a sample, I bought my bottle almost two years ago and have not regretted it. I never got a bug spray vibe from it, spraying further from your nose also allows for a more enjoyable wear too close and it can be too much and nose blinding. My wife compliments on it all the time that it smells very nice, I would honestly buy direct from the source and then decide. You’d be surprised how often Chanel is faked, tampered with etc.

It does not smell like Allure Homme Sport Cologne, which is a more traditional-smelling citrus.

For that, what you might like the more expensive Chanel Eau de Cologne, or the one I like: Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale, or for a more intense lemon: Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat.

Edition Blanche is sort of lemony in a different, more modern smelling way.

The experience doesn't sound right, but Edition Blanche is not like many other lemon scents. Just pop into a store and you can confirm in seconds if it was your sample or not.

I had heard about Edition Blanche long before trying it, and had hopes for it, as soon as I smelt it I knew in a split second I didn't like it. Perhaps the same has happened for you.

    This

I would recommend looking at sampling Dior Homme Sport 2008 formulation as well. This one involves the use of lemon and ginger.

I love pretty much everthing by Chanel. Edition Blanche, I love. Funny thing is, the only thing I own is Allure and it was a gift some 12 or 13 years ago, if not longer. I need to get some of their stuff. I guess what's always held me back is lack of discounts and never being on sale. It's always exluded so I just opt for something else and save myself the 20 or 40 bucks.

I get lemon from the initial spray. Maybe it is your own sense of smell or/and your skin chemistry.

I have to somewhat agree with this, there are so many better fragrances for a similar price or less.

You are not the only one, who made this comparison - some others said it smelled like kind of a toilet cleaner. I've read that numerous times on other fragrance forums (on the German one, too).

I personally wanted to like that fragrance as I enjoyed the later drydown with that tea-like smell. It had a calming effect on me.
I had a 150 ml bottle from an authorized official Chanel dealer - but every time I wore it, I liked it less until the day when I recognized that I just have to sell it. I like the AHS Cologne much more (and the Eau Extreme of course). I still have a 5 ml decant of it and tried it again a few days ago to see, if something has changed... no, it's just not for me.

The citrus in Edition Blance is indeed very synthetic and sharp smelling and I see where you're coming from. If you can't tolerate that piercing quality just stick to the Cologne version, the citrusses there smell much more natural and overall it's better suited for hot days.

Maybe Edition Blanche is just a little bit overhyped? I don't regularly use this term as I don't find anything wrong with a fragrance being well perceived. But I don't get all that "cream pie" comparisons as the gourmandy parts are really tamed down. To me it's just a slightly sweet, sharp citrus scent.

I don’t mean to offend anyone but It is well understood in the industry that American consumers struggle with lemon notes because of their affiliation with cleaning products and insect repellants. That’s why bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit has become the new norm for opening notes in the last couple of decades.

I purchased this years ago based on the "lemony" descriptions but I don't get much lemon and rarely reach for this one. It's just plain boring to me. The only scent out of the entire line I "kinda" like is the Sport eau Extreme and I'm not really gaga over that one either. I think selfishly I wear it once in a while only because I always get compliments on it.

No wonder eBay is getting rid of selling fragrances as USED. There is no way that what you got is Edition Blanche.

Its the only Allure I own/like and I rate it 10/10.

Now, I have the old Eau de Toilette Concentree version which some claim is different than the new Eau de Parfum naming (some claim it's just a name change that concentree really meant Parfum), but I don't know I've not compared side by side. When I read people claiming "Eau de Parfum" was a reformulation, I bought an extra EDT Concentree the same day as a backup bottle. Love it.

The new and the old Edition Blanche are the same scents.

    Here's a comparison video by James/JRoyl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxHsBha8v5s

Chanel just renamed it because they firstly thought that men won't buy anything with written "Parfum" on it, so they had that clever idea to name it "Eau de Toilette Concentree".

It might just be the vetiver and pepper combo, I don’t think this scent is predominantly lemon at all.
Just a little sharp citrus with a ton of synth vetiver pepper and Tonka.
I do happen to like it though but do not own.

Ill give you this advice...you better love lemon cream pie because I found it overwhelmingly horrible. Listen I can see if that is your thing why youd like it but it was close to a scrubber for me. Creamy lemon overload. But Im also not a huge gourmand guy and ones like Rochas Man and others just overwhelm me. That was my word for it..overwhelming. But Im an oddball

Agreed. It is strong. No more than one spray, IMO. I like the lemon cream effect, but it turns cloying quickly. There’s a kind of hairspray/bug spray effect under it, which actuality works toward keeping it fresh and bearable. Short spray only, though.
