Default Formula: A Nod to goste

I love Egoiste and it was one of the first fragrances I bought. Sadly over the years it has been rather degraded by regulations and the scarcity of some of its key ingredients (Rosewood oil and Sandalwood - and these days even vanilla absolute!)

I recently bought a bottle of the famed Cologne Concentree version which is utterly magical and it led me to make a formula for a similar type of fragrance with some of those rare ingredients still included.

Anyway - if you want to have a play around with what I think is a nice derivative of the original Egoiste of the '90s, here is My Nod to goste.

Caveat: this is not meant as a replacer or a copycat but rather a formula inspired by something great that will hopefully be of educational value to some.

Further caveat: if you use the exact formula this is very expensive at just under $100 an ounce.

    Thank you for sharing Mr.Frater,
This is a fantastic formula and I will definitely make it.
I have crafted many of yours. Your orange flower formula is, in fact,
My “go to,” orange flower replacement base.

Thanks so much for your knowledge and expertise.

It represents grams and the 1012 is 1,012g or just over 1kg. Scale it to make a smaller quantity. It's pretty typical for a formula to add up to 1kg or thereabouts.

I agree! It's fantastic. Can't wait to make this formula as well. I also have a bottle of the Egoiste Concentree, got it for a steal on Ebay. I only wear it on special occasions.

Hi Frater- just wondering if you have damascenone, why do you omit from your rose accords. I go to great lengths to try and make this and can't imagine you have it and don't use in your rose, or is it something you did not have then when you wrote those formulas?

I use it in my Rose of the orient with Damascone beta because Rose D'Orient is meant to be a replacer for rosa damascena oil.

In my French rose absolute I don't use it because Rose de Mai is rose centifolia which has none in it naturally (at least not according to any GCMS data I have seen)!

I use it a lot in non-rose related things too.

Edited to say that I only added the French rose formula a few days ago.

Lucky you got it for a steal! I think the vendor I bought mine from was the one doing the stealing in my case . it is one of the single most expensive perfumes I have bought - beaten only by that other insane Chanel perfume Bois Noir (the precursor to Egoiste) in its original lalique crystal and ebony wood bottle.

Thanks for the Rose Orient formula link, don't know why I missed that. Looks nice, will follow it when I'd like to add to rose materials.
Thanks for the explanation on rose de mai.
