Seconding particularly Sartorial, also adding YSL Rive Gauche as well as Fougere from the Parfums Capitaux fragrance series by Jovoy among the pricier ones-Rive Gauche may have a more classic structure among these two, yet both manage to use and reinterpret fougere notes in fairly non-mainstream, uncommon way

Nothing avant-garde about Rive Gauche, it's pretty much traditionalism in it's purest form.

Going to +1 and say what the OP doesn't want to hear, that Dior Sauvage and it's offspring are essentially what a "deconstructed" fougere would be. Not quite "avant-garde" either though, and I'm not sure that term can even be applied to such a utilitarian style.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yohji Homme. This opens with a lavender and liquorice accord, before starting it's shape shifting journey into coffee, rum and so many other wonderful notes. A stunning fragrance.

Yep this one got missed and it has been written by professional reviewers on being an avant guarde fougere !

I liked it back in the day but somehow now find it a bit too sweet.

Always been too sweet for me. I’ve got a 99% full bottle in search of a more welcoming home.

Thanks, mate. Yes, it really hits the spot, I think.

I LOVE MEM. Maybe my favorite niche bottle. I never knew whether I should call it a fougere or not.
