Default Odin - let's talk about it

Couldn't locate a recent thread about this house, and since a few frags have been released since the last post (I could find), I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
I tried a few, and liked a lot 07 Tanoke, and may be even thinking to go for a fb. Also, Steven Sturgill is currently reviewing the whole line (he has already done 00, 01, 02 and 03 as of today), and suggest having a look at his reviews:

I have tried a few (I believe six) from this house and unfortunately wasn't impressed personally with any.

American House I think -- I have purchased about 4 and really liked them but that was some time ago now.

I think this was the House Chanel stopped from naming their fifth fragrance No.5

07 Tanoke is a great incense fragrance. Wonderful olibanum yet woody and nuanced enough for it not to be 'straight-up church', if you know what I mean. And the packaging is quite impressive too. Shiny black on matte black boxes, and pitch-black bottle with the glass just giving a mere hint of transparency.

Yes -- blocky, heavy black bottles -- nice

I had a small decant of one of them a few years ago.. Can't remember which one it was. I remember it being nice though.

I've got 10 Roam, the only one I've tried, and I like it. I'd say it's sort of like the unisex version of Gucci Pour Homme 1 (2003).

Probably. Same issue with Elie Saab's Essences line that goes from n.1 to n.10, but n.5 is missing.

Let me start by saying I love the Odin store in NYC and think they do a great job curating their merch.
Wanted to like something from the line but did not.
Owned 07 tanaoke which smells great but is more “room spray” vs a more complete CDG Avignon ( they are both liturgical incense, which I love) but sold it off.
I think their scents use cheap ingredients, are not executed very well and are a good example of overpriced niche.
I will however continue to give them another chance because I do like the overall concept.

Some of their frags can currently be found for decent prices ($50-$100 online, vs $165 retail), that's why I asked for recommendations since I don't know all of them. That said, I agree with you that even of the few frags I tried and liked, I don't think any of these were worth full retail price.

    Ok.
For me 07 was initially worth a buy ( I think I paid $80 new on eBay) but found it ultimately not worth that especially when you could get something like encore noire extreme which does something very similar for about 30-40.
I tried 1-4 as well and none of them were a like for me.
If I found something that I really liked I would pay retail but as they are do not think they are worth spending anymore than designer retail average and that’s being generous since I do respect the brand.

I tried Odin at one of my visits at Barneys many years ago and didn't seem to find one that I enjoyed a lot.

I also liked 07. So according to you 07 is similar to Encre Noire a' l'Extreme? Interesting... I would have imagined that 08, which has vetiver, was the one nearer to ENE or so.
I spotted both ~$60 on eBay. Any experience with 08?

    Sorry, no experience with 08.
I found the incense and overall feel similar between 07 and ENE, 07 to be smokier but extreme to be a more complete fragrance with the additional vetiver and nicer transitions.

Got it. I have a sample of 07 somewhere that I'm going to pull out tomorrow to remind me this scent and think about it. As for 08, I'll keep my investigations going.
Thank you for having shared your thoughts here, very helpful!
