    Default Thank you hednic!

Earlier this year, the esteemed hednic wore only Gengis Kahn for a month. I was so inspired by his fervor for the scent that I purchased a bottle directly from Marc’s site. Now, granted, this is not the vintage frag that I assume hednic uses, but...it is FANTASTIC nevertheless. Such a wonderful, sensual scent. I love wearing it and smelling it throughout the day. It’s a great scent for all purposes: work, night, romance, etc. Thank you, hednic, for turning me on to this classic. Makes me want to search for the vintage version now. Hmmmmm....

Any tips for identifying vintage bottles? I must admit, I'm curious about it after seeing hednic frequently mention it.

There’s a thread on the forum here that’s dedicated to this fragrance. There’s a lot of good information in there, if you’re interested. A quick search should pull it up.

Don't care for it one bit. Smells like a cheap version of a common old school aromatic woody sort of fragrance. Very much overhyped by Hednic, and my guess would be just a personal attachment to this one. It's definitely not for everyone, and I don't recommend people making the mistake like I did to blind buy it. No personal hate to you Hednic, just I think your opinion on this one is highly biased.

Although it is an interesting fact Gengis Kahn was in fact the richest person in the world, EVER. If you put all of his net worth together, his assets, his properties, his income, his money and jewels, it would equal something like 700 trillion dollars (in today's economy), which is more money than there is bank notes in the world today, across all currencies. Pretty insane!

Very nice scent. One thing I do know Hednic has never wavered on this being his top scent. I'm not sure if this still holds true but I believe he noted this one was his only backup scent out of his vast collection. That is some testimony in my opinion.

Actually, I never tried it. If someone is interested in swapping a sample for something in my wardrobe, please send me a PM. Much appreciated.

They look like black cauldrons; you really can't miss 'em compared to the newer ones!

After sampling it for the for first time in the Genghis Khan thread mentioned above, I was blown away by how well made it is. It's classic masculine in some ways, but I love the way it straddles genres so seamlessly: fougere/oriental spice/woody/herbal...could be a mess, but it's so harmonious.

I have the same black bottle too which I really enjoy and it resulted in me trying and buying others from Marc de la Morandiere which I also love

I have a couple of vintage minis that I’ve picked up here-n-there and definitely enjoyed. I find it to be a spicier, smoother and more polished first cousin of vintage Krizia Uomo. They’re by no means the same, but seem to occupy adjacent stables on my skin. GK definitely has a definitive leg-up on Krizia Uomo, but for the money, vintage Krizia Uomo is very solid.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

From my limited experience , take it easy on the trigger, 1 or 2 sprays will do.

Well.. I decided after seeing such enthusiasm from others to give this one another shot. It was years ago when I last tried it, so hopefully this time around I will see what others see, and if not, I don't think I'll have a hard time getting rid of it, as it seems to be very well liked. There's a seller on Etsy selling 100 ml bottles of this, shipped from Poland for $71. Figuring that's usually what I spend now on a blind buy anyways, it'll go toward something that's highly revered, and something I have a little bit of experience with.

If it turns out well, I will gladly eat my words... and I'm really hoping I do, because I like a lot of the notes listed, I just never got that the last time i tried it. Also should note I have only smelled from a 1991 batch, as this one is said to be from 2014 according to the listing.

Today I received my bottle of the highly praised Gengis Khan. My impressions are more or less the same as when I tried it years ago. Now as BN grows and so does the reputation of this fragrance. Hyped by a very credible member the BN community, Hednic. Though as a critical person, and fragrance lover/reviewer, still.. I just don't get anything special with this one.

The opening, very 80s, but nice. this part of the frag is the best, but very brief. I get a woodsy, green, floral, spicy, a lot of nuances, but a lot of other fragrances from this era have done this too. The middle kind of reminds me of like a very subtle Slumberhouse Norne, mixed with Polo Green, mixed with mostly Jacomo de Jacomo, and a splash of Dali pH. It's nice, but it's BORING. The base just falls apart. I dunno what I'm smelling anymore. this is where it gets cheap, as i said in my previous mini review. Then it's just.. gone in 2 hours?? That I wasn't expecting at all. A dark scent like this to just pack its bags and leave with no base. Maybe I missed it? Maybe my skin chemistry is causing this disruption? I tend to get very good longevity from most fragrances that are notorious for mediocre longevity, for example, Burberry London lasts at least 8 hours on me, where it lasts maybe 4 on most people from what I read. Current formula Drakkar lasts 12 hours on me, where I see others calling it weak. Yet GK, this highly praised, sought after, and hard to find EDP lasts 2 hours??

It sort of just smells like a lighter Jacomo de Jacomo, and costs 4-7 times as much, depending where you buy it. For comparisons - it's like when Neroli Portofino got started on hype. From one man, and one man only, the train grew subtly. That man was Hirozuka on Youtube. He hyped a fragrance and got hundreds of people to buy it, a fragrance that ultimately just smells like a $7 fragrance created over 300 years before it. I can't condone anyone seeking this one out, unless of course you're a bottle collector and just want a rare bottle that looks like nothing else. A sub-par fragrance, with less than average performance, that has already been done a million times, and better.

Sorry if i missed anything I'm really tired right now, and looks like we have another tropical storm threatening Florida. Good luck to the BN Floridians this weekend, and early next week.

I added a pic I took of my bottle below for reference on the formulation. The seller said it's from 2014.

I am fairly new to this forum, and have enjoyed replies from hednic to me as well as others. Based on his like for the fragrance I purchased 2 x 2ml samples from Marc de la Morandiere. Took about ten days to receive here stateside.
Upon receipt I felt like a child on Christmas morning, couldn't wait to try.
I enjoyed the initial notes but also lost the scent about 2 hours into the wear. I still have one of the 2 ml. samples left, will give it another try this upcoming week.......

I assume that's eBay seller "mtinternational." According to his listing, the 2014 GK is a limited edition reissue of the 1989 original. I've never smelled either edition, but it's certainly possible that reformulation for IFRA compliance took a heavy toll.
