Default What's the correct way to pronounce "Knize"?

I heard someone pronounce it as "Neet-suh" the other day and realized I've never known the proper way to say it.

I just had a look and the company is Austrian. In the German language, 'k's aren't silent. My guess would be 'Kni-tse'.

Edit: No, it should be 'Kni-zee' with an e like 'elf'. Knitze would be 'Kni-tse'.

Just found another couple of threads on this:

I'm even more confused then I was in the beginning now.

As sami was saying, it's a Czech name but the company is primarily associated with Austria. So I guess there is more than a way to say the z (which I understand originally has a sign on it), whether in the Czech way or in some sort of German way. Either way, the K is there and the "i" is not pronunced as in English "eye".

It would be interested to know which pronunciation the company itself uses. It's possible that they use two-one in Austria and one in the Czech republic (a bit like Bulgari, perhaps... here in the US I usually hear the accent on the a rather than the u).

Well it looks like I’ve been way off. I have been pronouncing it as “knees” as in the body part. Lol!

    Thanks for the clarification.

No, I´m sorry, please don't pronounce it this way!
You have to pronounce the 'K' like in 'kind' or 'kingdom'. The following 'ni' you should pronounce like in 'knee' and please pronounce the 'ze' like in 'shed', but without the last 'd'

Here you can hear it correctly pronounced (0:12):

    I've always said:

    Kuh (like control, computer, complete)
    Nee (niece, need, knee)
Zhuh (like....the zhuh in parmesan, but not exactly. sables 'shed' example is pretty close)

With emphasis on the middle syllable:

    kuh-NEE-zhuh

It sounds like I close but a little off.

Les Senteurs James pronounced it as Ken zzz. This was way back in the early 00s. I always said it like this.
