Agree but I must say I’ve gotten great service at both Neimans and Sephora. People who enjoy their work are a pleasure to be around and neither Sephora or Nm has exclusive rights to good people.

Absolutely. And I've had excellent service fairly consistently at Saks and Nordstrom as well. Likewise the major boutiques (Hermès, LV, etc.). Barney's, a bit less consistently, but never awful, and sometimes excellent.

But then, I would also praise the service at my local grocery store and fish market, as well as eateries both pricey and modest. I wouldn't want to do any of their jobs, so I have great admiration for anyone who excels in customer service.

I dont like to spray my skin when im out. If im almost sold on a frag, maybe one spray. Otherwise 1 on a card.

Saw this a lot as well happening in the main perfume stores here in The Netherlands (even once one with Kouros many years ago; using 20+ sprays) but also in the big Department store Kaufhof in Germany where all the fragrances (mainly designers but also some niche) have testers which you can take and use the way you want, resulting in many people there taking showers......
My Top '11' of main current rotation in no particular order:

    - Fragrances of Ireland: Patrick
    - Polo Blue Gold Blend edp
    - Antaeus (vtg)
    - Azzaro: Pour Homme (vtg)
    - TF: Ombré Leather
    - Al Haramain: Excellent
    - SA: Shaghaf Oud Abyad
    - SA: Al Basel
    - D&G: Pour Homme (vtg)
    - Mancera: Red Tobacco
    - Mancera: Aoud Vanille

LOL The men's cologne section at my Marshall's always looks like a grocery store ravaging during the zombie apocalypse. There are always a bunch or open and empty boxes. And I think the people at the counter have a tougher time getting those security boxes off than half the customers.

Wow I’m gobsmacked. There is something uneasy about watching people using multiple bottles of fragrance as a replacement for a shower as though it will make them ‘smell good’.

In these situations soap is better people I promise.

Sephora had an extremely liberal policy regarding cosmetics testing, until they finally had to put a stop to abuses of it. I’ve read that they routinely saw women going out for the night and dropping by the store on the way for a free, self-applied makeover. Repeat offenders, often. How rude is that?!? I’m all for good customer service, but even the nicest retailers have to draw the line somewhere. More than one test spray of any one fragrance is cheating, in my book.

That is just straight up asinine. People like that are the ones who cause others to hate perfume and cologne.

Thankfully I don't see that here when I am out.

I remember Pluran a few years ago saying that people who overspray like that should be locked up like the gimp in the film Pulp Fiction. Can't say I disagree !

A few weeks ago, two giggling high school girls came in and asked for samples of two men's colognes. Didn't even try them first, just walked right up and asked for samples. The clerk obliged but come on.. at least pretend to be interested in buying something.. jeez.

Yeah I was just dumbfounded and so was other customer, we were all standing back . I just dont get how the sales reps let them do that and not stop, since they know they are not buying anything.

I work retail you would be surprised the stuff we deal with and tolerate, even with stealing mind as well help them walk it out haha. Retail is so customer friendly these days it’s all about keeping a customer and them returning to buy more really insane if you ask me. With all these online retailers box stores are pressured to keep a customer happy some have finer lines than others.

Good to know.... Where do you work?

Just kidding. That really is awful thought. I understand the need to satisfy your customers, but there needs to be a line somewhere.

Just on the subject of customer service maybe of samples, I tend to find sephora to be good, neiman marcus, saks etc are good. I have had some good and bad at tom ford though, a tom ford at nordstroms near me ive had some sales associates not be very friendly lets just say. And maybe on a funny note, I dunno if its actually a rule or not but one at nemian marcus near me who is usually good has told me before that they are not allowed to give any samples of lost cherry unless the customer brings his own personally like sample bottle for them to fill. Go figure that one out, but hey I brought one in and they gave me a sample of it so whatever I guess.

I once saw a guy walk in, cleary was dressed to head out at night, walk straight to the mens section, spray himself and walk off.

I'm even self conscious of spraying on the test strip , let alone having my local sephora be my personal wardrobe

The worst part of this behavior: by any reasonable Basenotes standards, Sephora makes for a mediocre wardrobe. If you’re going to scam retail, at least you could hit Nordstrom, Saks or Niemans.

Seeing teenagers do this is expected because they're teenagers. They're always roaming the malls, walking around and buying nothing.
But seeing grown adults do that is pretty unbelievable.

Saw this hundreds of times. But especially women do that - once I saw a good looking lady who is turning around herself and her friend is spraying continuously all over her body. About 40-50 sprays of the new Villhelm...
