Cool Popular Cologne Ads from the Past

    https://www.metv.com/lists/vintage-m...960s-and-1970s

Thought I would share this. A lot of stuff I hadn't even heard of.
The Jovan Sex Appeal ad particularly had me rolling.

I remember many of these from the 60s. A bit of nostalgia.

Lovely ads-makes me want to get those oldies just for the fun of it.

The 70s were the era of musks... (clean ones, that is)

I wanted to post the pics and vids from the link in the thread itself but figured that would take too long.
There are some great ads and videos in there. A lot of them, I'd never heard of before.

I love the old fragrance ads as much as I hate the modern ads which fortunately I almost never see.Advertising in general back in the day used to be 1000 times better than modern advertising. The old ads often used to be pleasant and clever. They made you interested in what they were selling.Almost the total opposite of modern advertising.

Also notice most of those fragrances were not from the designers. They were just reasonably priced widely available colognes. If they still sold them in their original formulas as they were back then or even a decade later I would take some or even most of them anyday over 99.99 percent of what they sell these days.

Thanks--so fun. If only modern ads were as good!

I see ads from time to time during primetime. Mostly DIOR, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein still.

I've always enjoyed Dior's Eau Sauvage ad with the sailor.

Thanks for posting these. I find these quite American-focused (which is OK), but as a result I can only recognise Aramis, Old Spice and Brut.

Suddenly I feel so new to this

They probably are but I, too, had not heard of most of them. Mr. J? Mandom? Sean? Cricket? Macho Musk? Never heard of them, but those ads are great.
Interesting to see the English Leather flankers, Musk and Ginseng as well as the Old Spice Musk.

The first time I saw that article was actually about 2 years ago. It is good that you posted it.I had not heard of a few of them myself. However it represents a time when very popular mens colognes were low priced, cleverly promoted and many of them were good.People liked them.No shelling out big bucks for a designer name or "niche" or whatever.

I really wish that would come back.
