Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. Happy birthday, kewart! Happy belated birthday to freewheeling and Zealot Crusader! My husband and my niece are also September babies. What a great month!

In Champs Elysees today and remembering why I hardly wear it. Really pretty but man, is it hard to wear. Always on the verge of a headache with this one.

    Have a good Monday, all!

Kewart, you're celebrating your birthday in Nice. How grand! Are French wine and bakery a part of the glory?

Belated birthday greetings to freewheelingvagabond and Zealot Crusader.

Jon, just tell me when to pick you up from the airport.

ClockworkAlice, since you asked ... yes, a manor in a manner of speaking.
To catch you up, I live in a 150yo school my parents and I moved into in 1960. Before that, my parents rented (beginning in 1942) a fire-damaged horse barn from the neighboring quarry. For about 18 years, my husband and I have been working on every aspect of the building and battling a hord of invasive plants. Details can be seen at quarryschool.com. Documentary to come some day.

Pix from yesterday, including one of this summer's new landscape projects.

The drainage pipe sends barn runoff to swale.
Newly exposed soil now sown with prairie seed.

    DSC_0191.jpg
View from barn. Rocks re-create a stone fencerow as used to be commonly seen in our glaciated area. This rocky barrier (underlaid with rubber roofing), keeps invasives from creeping into native plantings.
    I don't want to. I don't have to. You can't make me. I'M RETIRED.

Quarry! I’m going to visit your home some day... beautiful!

I’m wearing Diptyque Tam Dao today. I was hankering after something dry and woody. It doesn’t get much more drier or woodier than that.

Oh, I finished painting the stairwell. It took five days going at a slow pace. Next up: upstairs hallway. These utilitarian spaces get neglected in favor of fun room painting. And yet, they get used more and are more visible. I’m going to experiment with leaving the freshly painted walls bare of decor in keeping with my new minimalism. I can always add stuff later if it starts feeling too monastic. How’s your project going, PerfumedLady?

    Have a good day.

First off, I love you all. I want a bunch of rocks. I want to paint. I want to tell Freewheeling and ZC happy belated Birthday!!! and Happy Birthday to Kewart!

Update on the local stabbing--yes, the man is okay. It was a pen knife--1 1/2 inches long, 1/4 inch wide. He was home the next day, so apparently not seriously injured. Truly a bizarre incident. Life flight indeed.

Although I want magnificent landscaping and a beautiful home, my sole goal today is to catch up on some laundry and relax in Teint de Neige.

Happy birthday kewart! Hope you’re enjoying a birthday treat in France, I’m envious!

Quarry, that is quite a project. Kudos on all your hard work, you’re very brave to tackle all that. I know I would not be able to muster the discipline.

Started off in Taklamakan, topping up with Santal Majuscule tonight.

Oh, Quarry, how I admire your work, garden and historic school! And it was interesting to read bits of history and see photos in the website, too. Thank you for sharing!

Shycat, I'm glad to hear the man is okay - at least physically. I imagine being stabbed by your wife while fighting with your son speaks of some bigger problems than just physical pain though. I hope the family gets their peace.
I like your goal for today, especially the relaxing part. Doing lots of stuff is great, but relaxing is just as important.

I got my hair dyed and got a new haircut today. I love the colouring but I'm not sure how I feel about the new cut - but hair usually grows back anyway. Changed into Lace Noir for the evening, will probably go read a book before bed or something.
