Cool A newbie smells Maison Francis Kurkdjian for the first time

I ordered in 6 MFK samples and received them last night. This morning I put my nose to them and came up with the following thoughts and what an u trained nose smelled:

1). Aqua Vitae Forte- Oranges and citrus for me. A slight sorta cinnamon smell to but the citrus went away and was more oranges. Once dried I smelled a slight woody scent. I like this one. 4.75 out of 5

2). Grand Soir- Vanilla and amber and a sort of vinegar scent. I didn’t like this at all. 2.5 out of 5

    3) Aqua Universalis Forte- Citrus and flowers. More flowers then anything to me. Clean white flowers. A slight slight touch of wood when dry. It’s a pleasant scent but not great to me. 3.25 out of 5

4). Gentle Silver- To me I smelled Gin. Idk what made it smell like this but it does to me. I also smell like green leaves of a flower or something of that sort. I liked it a good bit. A lot actually. 4.25 out of 5

5). Aqua Universalis- Just like the Forte version just not as potent. 3.25 out of 5

6). Baccarat Rouge 540- I got vanilla and citrus at first, then a sweetness followed. To me it had a cotton candy smell to it, which is a good thing. Very different scent. 4 out of 5

Of the ones tested I will buy a bottle of Aqua Vitae Forte for sure, and possibly Gentle Silver. I really liked those.

Well that’s MFK to an untrained nose. Lemme know your thots and thanks for reading

Petit Matin is my fave, it favours warm weather but it's maybe more accessible than some of the others. I also recommend Aqua Celestia Forte though again more of a warm weather option

Check out MFK Oud. Think you will enjoy that one.

If the Rouge540 and Pour Le Soir smell anything like the other variants I have tried, I wouldn’t like them. Or at least not enough to buy them

I chose the 540 extrait due to your rating of 4 out of 5 for the EdP. I feel that the extrait is superior in all aspects although they share the same scent structure. The EdP feels as though it is missing something.

I own a large decant of Absolue Pour Le Soir and a FB of Grand Soir. I don't think that Absolue Pour Le Soir smells like Grand Soir IMO.

Ok good to know. I’ll maybe get a sample of each. The 540 has an excellent scent but honestly it’s to sweet for me to wear. Great smell tho

Grand Soir and Absolue pour Le Soir are completely different fragrances. APLS is not an amber, it's quite animalic and smells a bit "pissy" for lack of a better description.

One thing to try if you're getting another sample set is the once exclusive Ciel de Gum. In addition, Lumiere Noire and masculin Pluriel are nice as well. The latter being a lavender barbershop type of a scent. Good luck and enjoy the MFK adventure!

I find it very difficult to imagine anything in Grand Soir coming across like vinegar.
Though I do remember the first time I tried it I got a strange note, then realized it had reacted with a trace of something on my skin.
maybe try it again after a shower ?

I've fallen off the MFK bandwagon. Tried both Gentle Fluidities and am still snoring a week later. His scents are just too tame for me. The drydowns are usually exquisite, but is a full day of ho-hum worth that reward (do you hear me Pluriel and Amyris)? The Ouds are another story, and I think Satin Mood is my favorite there (Cashmere second).

I just wish he'd come out with a no holds barred kick ass men's fragrance.

I know Absolue Pour Le Soir is a favorite more adventuresome scent. I tried it but wasn't a big fan. Need to try again to remember why. I see Ciel de Gum mentioned and haven't tried that one.

I didn’t try it on my skin, I tried it on a sample strip.

Yea I need to try his Ouds and actually Ouds in general. I think I like the line because it isn’t to “in your face”. I’m more conservative in my dress (no bright colors and such) so I think that part of these fragrances suit me. I am learning I’m not to much into floral scents nor spicy stuff as much as cleaner or cistrus frangrances

Ciel de Gum will have his signature florals (jasmine in this case), amber, and cinnamon. Definitely worth trying if you're a fan of those notes.

You definitely need to try Grand Soir on skin, preferably a full wearing to really appreciate it.

Probably not. I’m learning that for the most part florals aren’t my thing, if they are pronounced

Yeah I maybe wear it once a year. Just too rough and kind of vulgar for me but can't deny it's iconic.

That's juniper berry. If you like that scent, look for juniper as a note in future fragrances.

It used to be my signature scent, by virtue of being the only one I had. I still have some left in one of those switchblade atomizers, but I can't see myself wearing it much from here on out.
