Yeah, I guess we could consider Hermes a designer house, though I was trying to limit it to couture designers. If we include Hermes I guess we'd have to include Bottega Veneta, too.

I almost went with Santal Blush but went with Black Orchid instead. Black Orchid just seems more iconic but I do prefer Santal Blush personally.

I think both Hermès and Bottega Veneta would be surprised to hear they're not couture designers.

    Don't forget Lanvin!

I guess I just think of them as leathergoods and scarves and horse tack. But sure, what the heck, add 'em in.

I agree Black Orchid is more iconic - and it's probably more original as well - but unfortunately don't find it that appealing (though the drydown of the original formulation was quite lovely).

They're definitely most famous for their leather goods, but both have full shows on the Paris runway and would be happy to dress you or me head to toe (for a small fortune). Hermès was producing couture before Yves Saint-Laurent was born.

Oh-tay! Color me couture-deficient. But, y'know, I seldom go shoppin' for clothes. I'm just a down home girl. (People swear that the perfume I wear is made out of turnip greens.)

I've skipped a few, like Prada, Mugler, some jewelers, Versace, etc. where either I couldn't decide or, like, have they ever put out something good?

While I've included jewelers, furriers, leather goods sellers, etc, among designers, I haven't put cosmetics companies like Estée Lauder, Revlon, Lancôme, etc. in this group. Should they be put with perfume houses like Guerlain and Coty?
Maybe we need another list for them.

    I skipped Guerlain.

I'm thinking Vol de Nuit, or Mitsouko. I love Mitsouko, but my first thought was Vol de Nuit.

We weren't doing the standalones -- Guerlain, Caron -- just the couturiers.

Yeah, cosmetic houses probably belong with the proprietary perfume houses.

I agree with most mentioned already.

From an African / African American masculine perspective:

Givenchy - Organza / Organza Indecence

    Tom Ford - Black Orchid

Lancome - La Vie est Belle / Tresor (tie)

Chanel - Coco / Coco Mademoiselle

    Perry Ellis - 360

    Burberry - Weekend

    Hugo Boss - Woman

    Cavalli - Serpentine

    ...just to name a few

Perhaps not able to write about each, since several houses mentioned have been blessed with a track record of quite a few masterpiece status fragrances, have definitely to second especially Le Dix by Balenciaga
