Default What to do with old collection?

Hi guys! Long time no see. I haven't collected colognes for probably 8 years now, rarely wear anything either. What's the best way to move a collection, ebay, forums? And is it best to do it as a lot or individually? Are old colognes even in demand or am I wasting my time? They have all been stored properly, I have the boxes for 95% of them. Any information you have would be great. The type of stuff I'm talking about is below, it's about half of what I have, I don't remember the names of some of them. Thanks!

I'd put stuff up here, see what sells, and then move the rest to eBay. Individual sales will bring more money, and some of these items are quite desirable.

I'd think you'd move more stuff individually than as a lot. You have some nice ones there that should get some bites.

Definitely in demand. Agree with the others. Post photos, percentage full and prices for each here. Try for a few months then move the rest to eBay... Which is much more complicated and more of a pain. Lot sales rarely work.

Thanks for the advice, I'll get the rest out and start taking photos and doing research.

Just keep them in your cupboard somewhere if you don't need the money: there will come a moment you'll be glad to have them...

Great advice. But I do use lots on eBay.

I haven't used the Basenotes store, and my wife uses EBay. If it's good quality, it'll go quickly on EBay if priced right. It looks from your photos that you've got some good stuff.

    I'd sell individually on EBay.

This is also the thought that I had.

On a slightly different note, if you'd indulge a tangent, I'm curious about what happened. Clearly at one point you were very into the hobby. I'm just wondering how it happens that someone loses most of their interest and goes from seemingly passionate collector to rarely wearing anything and looking to sell it all. At first glance, this would seem to have a simple answer...something like, "I just stopped finding it interesting." But, is there something more to it than that?

I don't need the money but they've been stored in a $1,000 temperature controlled device since new but that device is currently taking up space I want to use for something else.

I'm a bit obsessive, I don't just dabble in any hobby I pick up, I'm all in or nothing. I stopped dating years ago, I also stopped going out every weekend like I use to as I'm in my 40's now. I'm around the same three people at work every day. There really isn't a reason to keep wearing them. I enjoy them myself, but I don't think the dog is a huge fan of the strong scent and I'm around her more than anyone in my old age.

Although I agree with everyone else that you’ll fetch the best price selling individually—it’s what I would do—you might find a taker for the whole lot including the storage device. If it’s not so much about the money for you, you could figure out what you want from it and post it here to see if you get a bite. Because the downside of selling piecemeal is it’s more time and effort. And I don’t get the sense that you want selling fragrances on eBay to be your new hobby.

This. I would just offer the lot at a bargain.

There are some good pieces here from the photos provided. I'm sure they could be easily sold here.

I think everyone here saw this salivating. Ebay would work, here would work. Looks like quite a bit of money, but I'm not adding diligently. I mean, I know I'd take some of those, lol.

Throw up a sale ad here, if that doesn't get much traction then I guess you can opt to deal with the eBay hassle.

Let’s not go overboard with the 40s talk and being in your old age I think at some point you may wear some. You got a lot to do still. Keep 2-3 of favorites just in case.

That's just it though, I'll likely have plenty left after I move most. I have 3 bottles of Aventus, 3 bottles of Canali Black Diamond, 3 bottles of Armani Attitude, etc.

Nice to see you back here, PuddleMonkey. Best of luck with the sale. the_good_life had a big lot for a real bargain recently. Not sure if anyone took it up.

What's the normal method of shipping for this stuff? I'm pulling the boxes out now and I'm realizing that some of the boxes are quite larger than the bottles that came in them.

USPS Ground. Maybe USPS Priority for domestic shipments of perfume; not international.

Thanks, sounds like I need to start saving shipping boxes I get in the mail. While getting the cologne boxes out today I came across a stack of receipts, so most of this stuff I'll be able to pinpoint an exact date of purchase. I know that's important to some people with stuff like Chergui and Aventus.
