Holy Mary this stuff is wonderful and potent! Needless to say it came with no cap, so I took the cap from my dreadful re-launch, modified the inside of it and now it fits like a glove. Further thoughts on this magnificent golden amber-coloured juice pending.

Claiborne for Men by Liz Claiborne (1989)

Somehow popular enough to be reiussed after years of being discontinued, this one is not really loved by the vintage community here. It was a weird fresh forerunner to ozonic white florals, and is basically a white floral oakmoss chypre once you get past that sharp opening aldehyde (which is creating the ozone effect). I like it, but I understand it takes a different sort of person to like or still like something such as this.

    Gucci AccentiAccenti.jpg

I have had Accenti in my collection for a while, but while I would rather smell it on a woman than wear it myself, I think it is some of the finest smelling perfume on the face of the planet, and outside of Portrait of a Lady the best thing I have sniffed from the great Dominique Ropion. Released in 1995, this could have easily belonged to the great 80's, right along-side compositions like Dior's Poison.
    Current Top Ten:
    1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills) - tie
    2) Giorgio V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills) - tie
    4) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    5)
Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    6) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    7) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
    7) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie
    7) Coeur de Vetiver Sacré (L'Artisan) - tie
    7) Polo vintage (Ralph Lauren) - tie

The smell is wonderful, and it's largely as you suggest. The BN note pyramid doesn't list tobacco, but it strikes me as pipe tobacco up front settling into a lovely leather, like an old gentleman's favorite chair. There's some barber-y citrus and lavender on top, as well—though probably more back in the 1970s when this was new! I got a good 12 hours out of it, so I'm very happy with it.
