    Default Fougere D'argent & Viking

What do you guys think, are Tom Ford Fougere D'argent and Creed Viking redundant? Is it worth having both in your collection? I haven't been able to get my nose on my bottle of Viking for a while so I cant compare at the moment. I recently got a second sample of Fougere D'argent and I'm really liking it. Not quite ready to pull the trigger, but I'm enjoying it right now.

I've had both and I feel that Viking has more spice to it and D'Argent a woody base. In my opinion I don't think it's redundant to have both.

    Personally don't feel so.

    For me it was.

Also maybe check out TF Beau de Jour before pulling the trigger.

I don't find them that similar.

If you like Fougère d'Argent, give Azzaro Pour Homme Intense (2015) a test drive. It's a little more dynamic than FdA with more pronounced evolution as it develops but has a similar overall feel.

When I wore APH Intense, my wife actually thought I was wearing her FdA (FdA is her signature scent).

Interesting take. I find APHI'15 to be a cinnamon-y/amber-y sort, with a touch of booziness.

FdA doesn't have the booziness (which is mostly detectable during APHI's opening), but like APH Intense '15, it's a modern, somewhat abstract tale on the fougere with an amber base.

Seriously don’t think it’s worth having either. Viking is a hash-up of an idea that has existed for decades (if not centuries); whereas the Tom Ford is a modern interpretation of something that is hard to produce without the right materials.

Better to look elsewhere for either in my opinion.

    I agree about Viking.

That said, while I proposed Azzaro PH Intense '15 as an alternative, I do think FdA is badly misunderstood by the Basenotes crowd. It is not intended to be a true fougere or a sequel to Rive Gauche, but an oriental scent built on a fougere skeleton, one that is meant to be very contemporary and a touch metallic (hence the name). FdA's lack of discernible, natural notes is part of an intentional effort to construct an abstract effect.

I don’t think they’re similar. Both are good fougere wears light on me. Prefer beau du jour over FDa., Viking is better. L’immensite is more similar to Viking and also excellent.

I wouldn't consider them redundant, or even similar.
It’s tragic to think that heroic man’s great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

Viking is a different scent completely to Fougere d'argent.

Fougere d'argent was disapointing to me. Did not live up to the hype and is simply an average scent.

The much better scent in my opinon is Beau de jour. Superior.

Viking is full bottle worthy. It is a petty is carries the Creed name because people cant see past that.

Viking will get you noticed and is unique compared to the over 1000+ bottles in my collection.

    I share your preference.

    I wouldn't recommend either as a blind-buy, though.
