    Default Hello everyone!

    Hello everyone,

I joined the forum not too long ago, then got overwhelmed with multiple online choices for perfume lovers, started hopping from one site to another, from one FB group to another.... which is not exactly what I'm looking for. So I think I'm going to stick to this site, if you accept me in your frag gang.

I've only recently got into perfume collection. I've never had less than 10 perfumes at a time in my life, but never took it seriously.
I started listening to fragrance bloggers' videos around June this year and made many amazing discoveries since. The more I learn about fragrances, the more they fascinate me.
I used to be quite into aromatherapy in the past as well, which is very useful to me now.
Right now I have a bit over 40 full-sized perfumes, with quite a few discontinued fragrances. I've just started exploring the exciting world of niche perfumery, mostly through decants.

Guess that's about it for now.
Thanks for such a great site!

Welcome! We are all open arms here! Everybody is very nice. Sounds like you are basically a premade player with a respectable sized collection and 10 years experience.
It’s tragic to think that heroic man’s great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

Thank you! I'd be happy to be a part of the community.
Still need to figure out quite a few technical things about the forum though...

Welcome, lilioka! Enjoy the party that is Basenotes.

I hope one of the moderators will share lilioka's lovely post with Grant, our beleaguered founder, who has lost sleep recently unraveling a spam-criminal's attack on this forum. No matter where we are in our exploration of fragrances, Basenotes enhances our experience by bringing us in contact with friends from around the globe and compounding our pleasures. Lilioka's words remind me of this and inspire a sense of gratitude.
    I don't want to. I don't have to. You can't make me. I'M RETIRED.

    Thank you, everyone!

Half of my collection is pretty random, the remains of unconscious buying + some gifts. The other half (more recent purchases, including all vintage and discontinued fragrances) is more or less based on some basic research (bloggers' recommendations, Fragrantica digging etc.).

My favourites are: Midnight Poison Dior, Womanity Mugler, Shalimar Guerlain, Shalimar Parfum Initial L'Eau (and L'Eau Si Sensuelle as well), L'Agent AP, Sicily D&G, Classique JPG, Boudoir Vivienne Westwood, Elle YSL, Belle D'Opium YSL... I could probably continue... They are all recent purchases, though I had Midnight Poison and Classique 10-15 years ago.
There are a few more fragrances that I like quite a bit (I have only miniatures or decants): Grand Soir MFK, Habanita Molinard, Mon Nom Est Rouge MB, Eau du Soir Sisley, a few by TF (Sahara Noir, White Patchouli, Tobacco Vanilla).
I also have a very weird love / hate relationship with Black Orchid TF. I bought an official sample, fell in love with it, then bought 50 ml bottle and had to get rid of it. I'll try to get older versions of BO, they differ quite a bit I heard.
Wow, that turned into quite a long message.

Hello and welcome! TF Sahara Noir is my favorite incense-focused scent. Nice job snagging that.

I used to enjoy Sahara Noir a lot more until someone said it smelled like church. Now I can't help thinking I smell like a priest when I use it. I do have a thing for incense, I love it in L'Agent, I can smell it even in Grand Soir, though I think it's not officially in the notes (may be mistaken, too lazy to check now).

The Midnight Poison story is quite something. I had two MPs around 10 years ago, couldn't finish them, so I ended up giving away the last one (half full 100ml bottle ). This year I realized I had been missing it, started looking for it on eBay, but the prices were horrendous. So I found out it was discontinued. Several months later I'm already a proud owner of MP, but the best part of it is that during the MP hunt I discovered some fragrances I really really like (Belle D'Opium, Elle YSL, Perles de Lalique). Someone mentioned at some point that these fragrances were similar to MP.
So it kinda makes me think that everything does happen for a reason. If I had my old MP, I would not have discovered these amazing fragrances.

I never thought it smelled churchy, but I am also not an expert what churches smell like.
