Default You have 20 shots at this, don't **** it up!

Although I'm moving all of my old fragrances because I haven't wore anything in years one thing I miss is discovering new scents. In the past I'd spend $300 on samples at LuckyScent in one order, I'd then wear a new one each day and just give the vials away afterwards, then order full bottles of the ones I liked. With no intention on returning to the hobby I would like to try one last sample order from LuckyScent for old times sake.

I'm going to order 40 sample vials, I want you basenoters to pick out 20 of them and I'll blind buy 20 additional samples based on what the bottles look like. So what has come out between 2013 - 2019 that is a must have? I don't want any compositions older than 2013 as there's a high likelihood that I've tried them.

Here are my 20 blind picks, don't let my list be better than yours!

    01. Medie Eau de Parfum - Cire Trudon
    02. Issara Extrait de Parfum - Dusita
    03. Los Angeles Eau de Parfum - Gallivant
    04. A Man's Cologne Eau de Parfum - Gravel
    05. Emir Eau de parfum - M. Micallef
    06. Homme (Aoud) Eau de Parfum - M. Micallef
    07. Tendre est la Nuit Eau de Parfum - Majda Bekkal
    08. Love Kills Eau de Parfum - Masque Milano
    09. Megamare Parfum - Orto Parisi
    10. Black I Parfum Extrait - Widian
    11. Black III Parfum Extrait - Widian
    12. Ottoman Treasure Extrait de Parfum - Alghabra Parfums
    13. Slow Dance Eau de Parfum - Byredo
    14. Cuoio Dei Dolci Eau de Parfum - La Via Del Profumo
    15. Fougere Emeraude Eau de Parfum - Les Indemodables
    16. Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait Extrait de Parfum - Maison Francis Kurkdjian
    17. Single Man Eau de Parfum - Moth and Rabbit
    18. Ani Extrait de Parfum - Nishane
    19. Oeilleres Parfum Extrait - Roberto Greco
    20. Squid Extrait de Parfum - Zoologist

I assume these twenty have great looking bottles. If so, I think for the other twenty you should choose 20 crappy looking bottles.

I'll offer one suggestion toward your second 20 - Desir Toxic by M.Micallef.

I'll assume you're choosing Lucky Scent because of the selection and that you don't mind those (nasty) little 1ml vials to use for sampling. Be that as it may, here are some from their recent additions that look interesting.

    Areej le Dore - Antiquity
Areej le Dore - War and Peace
Areej le Dore - Siberian Summer
Areej le Dore - Plumeria de Orris
Bogue Profumo - I Love YY
    Arte Profumi - Sucre Noir
    Arte Profumi - Harem Soiree
    Arte Profumi - Velvet Rouge
    Arte Profumi - Samharam
    Arte Profumi - Bois Sacre
Tauer - L'Aire des Alpes Suisse
Serge Lutens - Le Couche Du Diable
    Zoologist - Squid
    Bortnikoff - Sir Winston
    Bortnikoff - Symphonie de Neroli
    Bortnikoff - Zemfira
    Bortnikoff - Musk Cologne
    Papillion - Bengale Rouge
    Ormonde Jayne - Ta'if Elixir
    Most worn:

Black Comme des Garçons, Borneo 1834 Serge Lutens, Patchouli Santa Maria Novella

Scarce, have you tried L'Aire des Alpes Suisse? If so, what did you think of it?

I bought a bottle recently. I wore it once and was not impressed. I don't think he captured the crisp, coldness or light density of the air itself, and I'm not crazy about the overall smell either. It's the kind of smell that gets annoying as it wears on.

But I only wore it once, and with a heavy application. I'll definitely give it another shot but my first impression was not great.

Never heard of that place. I'll likely have to give basenoters more than 20 shots at this since some people are listing 20 on their own. I was thinking more along the lines of one favorite per reply, but that's my fault for not being specific enough. I'm the king of not enough, ask any woman I've dated.

Wow, good to see you posting again, PM. Your unique wit has been sorely missed. Quite frankly, you haven’t missed much in the way of releases in the time period specified. Most releases to my nose have been unimpressive. That said, these five did:

    Ylang49 by Le Labo
Peety by O’Driu (I think the backstory/instructions on what to do with this one might also intrigue your sense of humor)
Superstitious by Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle (probably the best thing I have sniffed from the past few years, but unavailable on LS)
    Adjatay by The Different Company
    Thirty Three by Ex Idolo
    Current Top Ten:
    1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills) - tie
    2) Giorgio V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills) - tie
    4) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    5)
Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    6) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    7) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
    7) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie
    7) Coeur de Vetiver Sacré (L'Artisan) - tie
    7) Polo vintage (Ralph Lauren) - tie

Well I beg to differ from the good doctor. It really depends on where your tastes lie; you might have missed little or actually missed out on A LOT. If for instance you’re into bold artisanal /skanky stuff, you’d missed out on:

Areej Le Dore 1st 4 collections (good luck finding most though)
    Bortnikoff 1st 3 collections ( esp. Bonheur)
    Ensar Oud EO1, EO2 & Iris Ghalia
Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin & Lover’s Tale
Fragrance Du Bois Borneo Oud, Parisian Oud
Papillon Artisan Perfumes Dryad & Salome
Sultan Pasha’s Aurum d’Angkhor, Tabac Grande, Fougere Noir
Rising Phoenix Musk Rose, Sicilian Vanilla
Auphorie’s vegan musk-driven Mayura, Oud Musc Maharaja
    Rogue Perfumery’s vintage-inspired non-IFRA compliant rogues
Zoologist’s entire weird & wonderful line up
    ...among others.

But if you’re into cleaner stuff with designer leanings, then yeah you probably didn’t miss all that much. But there are still gems in stuff like Tom Ford Beau de Jour, Floris 1962, Cartier L’Envol, etc.

Unfortunately all those Ensar’s are out of stock, at least for samples. It’s too bad, because they’re very good!

Yes, although with a name like "Viking," it's probably not going to be what you think. It's pleasant, but rather mild, and not what the name implies.

Perfect for office wear and not offensive in any way.
