    Default Le Labo Baie 19

Anyone gave this one a try?

Loving the way this one wears. Thought it would be light, but I guess I got carried away with the sprays this morning.
16 hours later is still kicking hard.

Niche line Le Labo has launched Baie 19, a new unisex fragrance.

Truth is…Baie 19 should have been called Water 19. Not that it smells like nothing (though nothing smells like it), but it has this crisp, wet, drenched effect that water gives to the earth after the rain...

And there’s a word for that, by the way: petrichor. It’s that magical feeling during heavy rain after a long dry spell, and it’s one of the most beautiful olfactive phenomena in nature. There are many reasons for this, including the ozone in the air, the negative ions, but most importantly the release of oil secretions from certain plants, accumulated after a long dry period. This is what Baie 19 is about: the dry juniper berry, the patchouli, the green leaves... all soaked by a beautiful, luminous, magnetic rain after a long drought. And the joy that comes with it…

Additional notes include ambroxan, cade and musk.

I have a sample on the way. Even though I haven’t liked a new Le Labo since the Ylang/Lys duo, the description of this one was interesting enough. Always curious to sniff a take on petrichor. But otherwise most recent Le Labos I find clumsy and off-balance, and too reliant on big honking synthetics. They tend to come across as either crassly brutal, or underworked. But we’ll see.

I stopped by the boutique about an hour ago to try this. I thought it was incredible on the card. It reminded me of the wet, green woods by my parents' house while growing up. I bought a sample that I can't wait to wear.

Apparently it can mean berry or bay.

lt's the petrichor note that attracts me to this one, though.

I created a separate thread on it giving my opinion Friday night. Didn't see this thread at the time.

Tried this one. Salty with a prominent patchouli. Reminds me of many salty scents that appeared last 3 years.

I've been wearing a sample on and off since it came out and I gotta say it is not good (and I'm a le labo apologist, I like a number of their scents and think in general frag heads are overly hard on them). Baie is just super generic and flat, it does have a subtle persistence but in an annoying chemical way. Baie feels amateur and uninspired compared to something like L'Eau D'Hiver which is also subtle but persistent and envelops you in your own personal comforting scent cloud that never cloys. Baie is quiet but annoying and fresh in a very generic way. Reminds me a lot of the much cheaper "bergamot" from Malin and Goetz. (there's some "fresh" note in a lot of malin that is nice but also feels a bit cheap and I smell it all over Baie).
