Default Bernard Chant sample pass -- an inquiry

For some time I've been thinking about doing a sample pass of Bernard Chant's fragrances. He only created 14, so we could fit most of them into a pass.

I own 6 of them, and I'm thinking that if someone else has the ones I lack, we could start the pass with me sending mine on to another person (or two) who could add theirs and get the pass rolling officially. (Alternately, they could just send their samples to me and I'll do the initial shipping of everything.) So I'm inquiring here to find out if anyone would like to help round out the Chant oeuvre.

I have on hand vintages of:
    Cabochard (1959)
    Aramis (1965)
    Azurée (1969)
    Aromatics Elixir (1971)
Halston (1975) (my bottle of this is not deep vintage, probably mid-90s; a true vintage would be better)
    Lauren (1978)

    Ones I don't have:
    Estée (1968)
    Estée Super (1969)
    Aramis 900 (1973)
Aramis Super Eau de Cologne (1977)
    Devin (1978)
    Cinnabar (1978)
Antonia's Flowers Eau de Toilette (1985) - (this one seems to have entirely vanished)
    Beautiful (1985)

Of course, vintage versions would be preferred, but we might have to settle for contemporay editions on a couple.

    Anyone interested in contributing?

This would be a good pass for me to participate in since I've never tried ANY of the above.

Then you definitely need to smell them! But we'll do a separate thread for participant sign-up, this one is just for potential contributors.

Yeah, I can see how I would benefit, but I'm afraid I can't fill in any of the blanks. I only have Aramis and Cabochard.

And I was just sure you'd have all those Aramis flankers plus Cinnabar!

Great idea for a pass, Cook.bot.

I don't have any of the perfumes that you have listed as ones that you don't have, but I do have a good vintage Halston (1975) to contribute.

Fragrantica also credits Chant with Coty's Imprevu (1965). Do you agree? If so, I can contribute that one.

And finally, who composed Halston Couture (1988)? I've always assumed it was Chant, but I see that it is not credited to him anywhere.

Well, drat! I was counting on you, too. Might take you up on that Halston, though.

First I've heard of that! Let's discuss later.

Never heard it attributed to him. I own a mini of that, and it doesn't smell like a Chant to me, but mine might be some lame recent reformulation. Some research required?

A lovely idea, indeed! I have a handful of the ones you would like to add, but I am fairly certain that several are newer versions, and the others are not super vintagey. If there are no other contributors of older versions, perhaps mine would be sufficient to get an idea if not the full glory of the original. Also, I thought he had composed a few others, and found on another site that Aliage and JHL are both attributed to him as well. (Aliage shows another perfumer listed as well.)

Aliage was certainly in the period when he was working so much for Lauder, but a peachy citrus with pine and vetiver really doesn't sound like him, does it? JHL we need to look into.

I'll PM you about your potential contributions, Cestrum. And thank you!

Some but not in vintage, therefore not sample-grade for the noses in this particular forum.

I think vintage Aliage does smells very much like a Chant, although it may have been composed by Francis Camail (who also worked on the somewhat similar Ivoire in 1980). Chant is listed with Camail for Aliage on Fragrantica. If Camail did compose Aliage solo in 1972, it would have been one of his earliest perfumes, by quite a few years.

Vintage Aliage is not especially peachy or citrus to me. I would call it a fiercely dark green chypre with some of the same elements as Cabochard/Aramis/Azuree.

I can contribute vintage Aliage if we want to include it for the purpose of discussion

Thanks, Paps. I might take you up on that. JTD, in his theory of Lauder's "twin pairings", thinks that 900 is the male counterpart of Aromatics Elixir:

I'm a little surprised none of our vintage guys have jumped in with full collections of those Aramis flankers.

PMs sent to Grayspoole and Cestrum re: contributions.

I can donate any amount of a recent (approximately 4-6 years old) formulation of Devin if no one comes forward with a vintage.
