    Default Which vetiver? Or both?

After testing Terre D'hermes and Encre Noire at the pharmacy yesterday, I have to say I love them both. However, I know that Encre Noire can be an appalling smell for some, and the Encre Noire is very extreme (Very inky) and I prefer something a bit easier on the vetiver note.

So I'm contemplating between getting Franck Olivier Black Touch, which is some kind of Terre D'hermes and Encre Noire mix, and getting the Encre Noire Sport. I haven't tried them both, thus I'm looking for outside opinions.

I can also get them both, as they're both dirt cheap. Only 27 usd for the Sport and 21 usd for the Black Touch.

    Opinions?

Encre Noir Sport is a very nice versatile Vetiver and smells excellent still offers the Encre Noir formula but with added citrus’s the smooth things out for a mass appealing approach. I’ve tried Black Touch before and it was slightly off putting for me not something I could wear regularly. Hermes Terre D’Hermes would be more worth your time and smells nicer imo blended well and very versatile.

I am not interested in buying the Terre D'hermes, it costs a bucket load and I'm looking for something cheaper that is similar to it or a clone of it. Do you know of any other clones or alternatives?

Montale Red Vetyver is close to Terre D’Hermes and is about as close as you can get. An alternative minus the orange would be Guerlain Homme L’Eau Boisee it uses lime in place of orange and offers similar vibe and wear.

Terre d’Hermes is the more wearable of the two but also pricier. But if you’re after an edgy or offbeat signature-worthy, Encre Noire has that little extra.

Possibly both or if only one, would second the Encre Noire Sport recommendation-hardly any other versatile and good performance everyday vetiver available so inexpensively while providing a certain quality above what might be expected for its price

What one is more wearable and has better longevity?

You won't find anything that is similar to THD at the same level of quality. Yardley Citrus and Wood is similar and very cheap if this is what you are looking for.
I love Encre Noire much more than EN Sport, you can chose whichever you like more, it's a matter of personal taste.

    This is just goofy.

Buy what you love and want to wear, not stupid clones.

You can get a 50ml of Terre d'Hermes online for $40. Don't skimp.

I have smelled TdH edt & edp. I own Black Touch and just tried a sample of ENS.
My nose tells me Black Touch is very close to TdH, but a little harsher. Which is to be expected given the price difference.
ENS is a much softer, less aggressive, scent than Black Touch or TdH. ENS has no orange smell to me, but a cleaner more powdery scent.

I agree. The prices are reasonable from online discounters.

I don't see the issue with "stupid clones". Some clones are very, very good similar versions to the original, and heck, some are even better (for my nose) than the original. I don't think that Terre D'hermes is absolutely perfect, it's a good scent and I'm sure I'll also love something similar to it, that costs 1/4 of the price. That's why I'm conducting this "mini research". If I find a better alternative with similar/better longevity, for 1/4-1/5 the price, that's a much better scenario than buying the original one.

    That's backwards thinking.

You said you loved both Terre d'Hermes and Encre Noire. So figure out a way to buy both. This isn't rocket science.

I appreciate it, but I'm not looking to get persuaded. I'm looking for clones/alternatives to Terre.

You're going to get something worse, of inferior quality, to try and save a few bucks is how I'm reading it.

I await with bated breath your Aventus thread...

As to aventus, I'm completely fine paying 1/10 the price for something that is slightly lower quality than Aventus. CDNIM.

I think, in my personal experience, researching cheaper alternatives can often spiral into buying 2 or 3 cheaper alternatives to figure out which one is close enough. By the third bottle, you spent as much as the original, great smelling version, only you don’t have one that makes you happy. Just my $.02. There are tons of great cheap ways to buy TdH... fragrancenet with coupons makes 15ml of tdh cost like $14 dollars or less.

I’m currently wearing Fahrenheit from a travel atomizer that set me back $9 on scentbird. There are lots of great cheap options to own the real thing. Also the Encre Noir original is incredible. If you smell it and like it, grab it. I get more compliments when I wear the original EN than when I wear the far more expensive Sycomore by Chanel.

EDIT: in the end, you should do what you want to do. If you enjoy a clone more than the thing it’s imitating, get that and forget the opinions on here!

I prefer Terre over Encre. Another better alternative is Guerlain Vetiver. Black Touch is nice but performance is lacking.

TDH over encre Noir. However after I bought a bottle of Eusersdorff vetiver, I came to the conclusion that it doesn't hurt to pay 20 bucks more and get a better and more refined version of TDH.

From Franck Olivier I'd go for Oud Touch...and I prefer Sycomore over Encre Noire and the best Terre is the Pure Parfum version

TDH parfum is perhaps my favorite fragrance that I own. I have and do enjoy Encre Noire.

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

But, if you like the clones better and your budget doesn't allow a more expensive purchase, then it's your nose. Get what you want.
