Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. Hello all!

Today I went on a testing spree in a local discounter shop, and now am sitting in a cloud of different perfumes - I tried as much on me as I was able to fit on my hands and arms without mixing them: Laura Biagiotti Venezia, CK Be, CK One Shock For Him, Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant, Serge Lutens Bapteme Du Feu, Trussardi Donna, Aquolina Pink Sugar and Lolita Lempicka. Of course, there were a ton of others I sniffed only on paper.

I came back with some loot, of course - Pink Sugar and Lolita Lempicka (the new version though, as the pretty original bottle is nowhere to be seen - this one doesn't really compare, but is also pretty on its own) are now sitting comfortably in my wardrobe and are ready to comfort me whenever I'm in need of something sweet. I really liked Kenzo Jungle and SL Bapteme Du Feu, too, but these weren't that cheap, so I might want to retry them several times before deciding anything.

tdem, thank you! Sadly, I didn't enjoy Venezia The bottle is so cute though. Sniffing it I can totally see how someone else would love the scent, it is a rich and strong floral, but I'm starting to notice I don't like fragrances where jasmine note is too strong, as it gets cloying and overwhelmingly too floral-sweet (strangely there are kinds of sweetness I love and kinds of sweetness I don't) to me/on me, and unfortunately that's what happened this time. Also, I tested the new version and you probably enjoy the original one - I just read that they're quite different, and the original is quite spicy/a bit oriental in the base, but the scent I tried is mainly floral.

Mike, when’s the best time to visit Key West? Are there any months to avoid? I’m considering traveling there next year. Among other interests, I’m a Hemingway fan.

I’m wearing Mugler Cuir Impertinent for my weekly drive up to Los Angeles this morning. It’s still in the 80s this week in the land of Eternal Summer. At least the nights and mornings are chilly.

    Have a good day.

ClockworkAlice, never fear--I bought 2 pet beds for my beasties.

I'm wearing Oajan today, a Chicago Basenotes meetup purchase. It smells a bit like root beer this morning. I'll be cleaning today, my cleaning person has apparently quit without notice.

Hi again. I had a lovely day in Chester and visited Jo Malone,
Space NK, Browns/Debenhams and Penhaligons (more of which
in a separate post.) I purchased some beauty gifts in Space NK for my
sisters and a few presents in Penhaligons - a set of the spicy Halfeti and
the samples set of 10 frags. I can still smell the Halfeti sprayed on this morning.

Jungle L'elephant seems to be the only Kenzo I truly love. It's such a spice bomb! I will never buy a newer Lolita L. I despise the new bottle design. I have enough of the originals laying around to last the rest of my life.... If you like Pink Sugar, you may like Gold Sugar.

I have no idea behind such a bone-head move. Must've been some corporate, neue regel move within the "company slash house" that I missed, along the way. I realize, the bottle design isn't always a popular reason for purchasing a bottle of perfume, however, it is, just that reason, I sampled this juice, to begin with long ago. Whaddayagonnado?

HoP, thank you for the recommendation! I looked up Gold Sugar and... it's a citrusy gourmand with a woody base!? Should be right up my alley. Unless I'll have problems with coconut, I sometimes do find it a bit too much. I'll see if I can find it here. The Pink Sugar one is just such a funny thing, I chuckled when I first tried it, because it's so childish, girly and sugary, but just kept sniffing my inner elbow again and again - it's that addictive. It's the epitome of guilty pleasure - but a pleasure nonetheless.

About Lolita - I totally understand your sentiment. I remember the frairytale-like ads with the original bottle when I was just a kid (or in my early teens? who remembers now), I adored the whole aesthetics - I still do. The whole line kind of dances on the line of campiness, but very beautifully.

For Kenzo - I like the FlowerByKenzo line of theirs. But I like spices, so of course I liked Jungle, too.

Oh, I love your haircolour choices! After almost three years of dying my hair every shade of red, bright red, brownish-red, burgundy-red, aubergine-red and gingery-red (and I had a year when I dyed my hair ends in pink and fuchsia, but had to cut them all off this spring, because, well, bleaching and dye-ing doesn't make hair look healthier...) I finally succumbed and came back to my natural dark brown. The upkeep was such a hassle. I still left a tint of red balayage-style on my hair ends, but that's very subtle. I'm both comfortable coming back to my roots (oh the puns) and am missing the more interesting colour at the same time.

I'm not exactly sure, but I have read some rumours that the brand was sold and resold and finally rebought by Lempicka herself, and now she's running the brand as a family business and doesn't really distribute her fragrances outside France right now - or something along these lines. So it's entirely possible that she doesn't have the rights for the original bottle and had to make the change. If it's true, it's very unfortunate, but it only makes me want to support her more.
