Default My First Impressions of Le Labo BAIE 19

    Hey all,

Tonight at Nordstroms I attended a little class by Le Labo (which I was invited to by Le Labo Associates Angie and Silver) and they unveiled the new scent Baie 19.

Here is my review. It seems tuned to be a bit on the niche side of things and is not trying to be any clone or mass-appealing monster. Rather, this one is classy, woody, somewhat mossy and earthy with a hint of pine/leaves. It's not punchy but rather 'reserved' in the presentation. It's not trying to hit one over the head with obvious green notes and despite the note composition seeming a bit old-school, it smells more like a modern scent.

I think many in this forum would like the new scent. I'm recommending people here try it. I am on the fence whether this is one I want, but I think quite a few enthusiasts here are going to like it. I smelled this from someone's skin and I have to say that the 'damp' and earthy tones come across much more pronounced from skin than from the paper.

This article has the same picture that was on the LCD screen they ran the presentation on:

In the class I met a Basenotes lurker named "Chief" who is now a new friend. We walked around the Fashion Show Mall to different department stores and smelled fragrances after the class. It was a fun night tonight.

Glad to get your initial impressions of it. This one sounds like something that I could like.

I really liked it when I stopped by Le Labo the other day. I'm looking forward to wearing my sample.

Because they weren't selling the fragrance yet and they weren't giving out any samples, only offering to spray on people, I will have to wait to get a sample, unfortunately. And then I will be able to spend some time with this one to get used to it and find out if it's one I really want for my collection. I will need more time. I think it will work nicely in the Fall. Le Labo should have moved that launch up a month earlier IMO, but this is the launch period we got. I think it is definitely good enough to talk about and see if anyone can go sample and say what you think on here.

Will stop by this coming week to try it in store.
