Default The Cap And Why, Caps That Would Have Been Better Otherwise?

Paco Rabanne XS and flankers - really I would feel odd holding and spraying these, some of these I read are decent but that cap just no. A plain pull off would have been just fine imo.

What’s are other caps on fragrances you feel would have been better with a better choice of cap?

The original tall bottles before the redesign were better but I feel ya.

Hmm, it's hard to give a clear winner either way. The old, tall bottles required a rigid claw grip to spray, whereas the new ones are easier to spray, but are more bulky to hold. Pure XS Night's cap is not hinged, however.

I don't really like the molded cap for Dior Dune pour Homme. There's no keying so the cap can be replaced incorrectly (not flush with the bottle).

The non-magnetic Amouage caps were kinda crappy, as are some (many?) of the Creed caps.

I'm also not a big fan of screw caps in general, such as Mancera. But they do function well.

The in-built 'no-cap' caps (!) Are rather irksome
Think one man show, Lanvin oxygen, VCAPH etc.
    one-man-show-800x800.jpg
Seem to get a bit cloggy/stiff and not the best to give control over spraying etc.

As long as the spraying function/performance is decent, have never given this much thought.

However, if the spraying mechanism releases too large quantity of perfume at once in one single spray (even without being defective and even by the standards of an over sprayer) and/or looks very gaudy, unprofessionally done, badly attached etc. compared to the remaining fragrance bottle, might have second thoughts about purchasing.

Valentino Uomo and flankers: A beautiful (somewhat gaudy) bottle adorned with the cheapest looking, obtuse little piece of plastic that only functions to keep you from spraying accidentally. It’s a stopper...not even a cap. Pragmatism has its place, but it’s not on top of an otherwise fancy bottle. I’d take Curve’s simple, small stopper over Uomo’s any day.

Slumberhouse new bottles. These caps are thin, flexible rubber like the kind you’d find fitted at the end of pipes (the plumbing variety). Their purpose is to form an airtight seal around the atomizer to preserve the juice (which they do). But their aesthetic (or lack of) is at odds with the rest of the bottle, which features ornate metal plating with engraved script. It seems like a total after thought conceived in a budget conscious mindset (which I believe it was). While the caps work, they don’t do the bottle any favors in terms of looks.

A*Men (Mugler): this one is self explanatory, but I refuse to use the “cut” method some resort to. I’ll take inconvenience over a mutilated bottle.

Should have stuck with old design haha, I was interested in XS 2018 I hear it’s a nice clean fresh fragrance ala Creed Himalaya and at $35 it’s a easy purchase still might though I dunno...

You can still find the original 1994 bottle design around but it's getting more expensive. The cap still flips but there is more room for your hand. Also yes, Himalaya does pretty much copy XS (as XS came first), but Himalaya is a little more complex.

Stronger with you. Nice looking cap, but you have to line it up perfectly or you cant shut it. Stupid.

LDDM has a silly cap, its trouble to get it on tight and off.

Built in i dislike almost universally. Enough so im getting rid of my vintage obsession. AMen, bvlgari, 1 million, invictus all trash.

In general i dislike if it doesnt click or magnet shut. The only ones ill caveat here is Guerlains new wood ones, and MFKs. The guerlains are just good style, the MFKs straddle that line. They grip pretty hard, you can hold it by the cap easily, but not tight enough its a struggle to get them off.

    +1 The LDDM Cap stinks.

The friction push fit of the golden cap on a vintage Ralph Lauren Polo bottle is simple but very effective. Really good.

I would like to see Chanel caps improved on their classic lines although they are not actually bad per se.

Creed’s spray bottle caps really need improving. They are ornate but some of the worst speaking from a purely functional viewpoint especially given the pricepoint.

I saw Buysblind mentioned this one. This is a poor excuse for a cap

But I don't keep it on the bottle so I don't mind it anymore.

Anytime the sprayer is built into the bottle, I don't like them and go so far as to avoid them, even if I like the scent a lot.

The Gucci Rush bottle is atrocious. The Acqua di Parma style bottle-and-cap (effectively imitated by Tom Ford's new range in Ombre Leather, Metallique etc.) is by far my favourite.

Creed all day haha. Considering the price point, you'd think their caps would be better. I love the caps on MFK and the magnetic ones on Chanel and Dior.

Not to mention the leaking. Both bottles I ever owned of Creed have leaked.

    Crap caps :
Boucheron Jaipur - looks cheap and nasty; one of these days I'm going to break the cap getting it off the bottle.
Current /recent Penhaligon's regular line - flimsy and break eventually (not convinced the caps of 100ml bottles will last the course)
Gucci Guilty Absolute : caps are difficult to open and too small for the size of the bottle
That flip-top 'cigarette-lighter' cap on Jacomo de Jacomo - prone to lifting open; hard to close

    Good caps :
Robert PIguet; and the sprays are good.
Guerlain masculines (silver top or wooden top)
    Etro

Afaik, the Pure XS Night has a regular cap which you can completely pull off.
And I recently wondered if they already have changed that on the regular Pure XS, too?

Creed caps tend to fall off quite easily after some wear, kind of annoying.

The slightest dab of any silicone based lubricant on the "O" rings will solve all Tauer cap problems. Maybe, one day, Andy will do it when he packages his scents.

Yep, the whole Guilty line is guilty. There is nowhere to get a decent grip of the too-small, too-tight-fitting cap.
