Default I received very negative feedback unexpectedly by a trusted loved one

    Ok wearing encre Noir sport

    Was not expecting that

This same person enjoys heritage leather Oud Sycomore etc so it was no amateurs

Maybe it matches that classic thread on here that vetivers are women repellents? She like Sycomore but thatís more earthy

It happens, for me it was Antaeus by Chanel. I liked it but I had so many negative comments on it that I eventually sold it off. I even had someone on a bus come up to me and open the window above me. lol

Sorry to hear this, but certain that other fragrances like the positive examples mentioned and in line with these might receive a far better feedback

I was surprised that generated this type of response. I can see Antaeus or Kouros cause this, but not ENS.

Encre Noire Sport might be the "safest" of the Encre Noires, but I can easily imagine someone struggling with the EN vetiver note and ISO-E.

Encre Noire In any form is industrial stink. I have said it before and will say it again, it’s always been an anti-perfume. It’s incredible that the same house generally makes opulent stunners like Lalique Por Homme, but went with post-apocalyptic industrial minimalism with the Encre Noire line. Encore Noire smells like something CdG would make.

Encre Noire is to me what Aramis is to Hednic

That’s at least equally as funny as the classic story here of the guy who was sent home from work after applying 6 sprays of Aventus from the old firehose bottles

Sure, Extreme is industrial funk, but I find it hard to throw Encre Noire Sport in the same category.

I've gotten compliments with Encre Noire Sport - and I don't see its potential to offend people like Antaeus or even Kouros.

It surprised me how negative the reaction was. A Vetiver That is citrus and considered a good work scent.

I don't know. If she had an advanced nose then you know how it is, you tend to like some certain scents a lot more than others and the differences, how you experience the different smells, are very subjective.
I f.e. really love Chanel AHS Eau Extreme but can't stand the Edition Blanche anymore - though many others would say they are quite similar, just the latter being more citrussy.

And you are right, ENS could be a very good work scent. It's also not loud.
I know women wearing themselves Molecule 03 - which is Vetiverylacetate - the same which you get with ENS. Maybe it was the grapefruit which turned her off? Sometimes it could have a slightly urinal smell.

Same here. Really big ones, like MPG Route du Vetiver. And Sycomore is in my Top 2 of all time, but I've always hated Encre Noir and took offense when people compared it to Sycomore. However, I was recently shocked to find myself loving EN Extreme, a vast improvement IMO. Haven't tried the Sport, but can't imagine it being so offensive as to cause complaints.

You're really not alone as women who love Encre Noire or its flankers.
Have you seen the review of Agnes Eva?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J979QFI5Ki0

Seems she really adores those fragrances.
And I agree on the canned pee smell of Encre Noire Extreme.

A lot of people mistakenly think that if a scent is well composed it means everybody will like it. Or if somebody has an experienced nose, they will like it.

    Nope.

I don't care how experienced of a palate one has, if they don't like olives, don't serve them food with olives. Smells work the same way. I don't care how experienced somebody is with fragrances. If they don't like vetiver they won't like vetiver - and just as not all kinds of olives taste the same, not all vetivers smell the same. Maybe they'll like some but not others. The same is true for any note. And sometimes, it's not the note, but rather, how it's used. Give me a bit of cardamom & I love it. Give me too much & I hate it.

In the end, different people like different things.

Itís tragic to think that heroic manís great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

I like the whole EN line but I do find that ENS can get into cloying chemical shower gel territory. Sometimes I get sick of it by the end of the day if I put on too much. Not the vetiver it Iso E that gets me, but the juicy sweet melony calone or whatever it is.

As some BN women have noted, and my wife would echo, vetiver is not a categorical woman-repellant. It may repel the particular woman in question, but that’s something else, and it’s testable with a more traditional vetiver (e.g., Guerlain Vetiver, TF Grey Vetiver, etc.).

If this is someone you are (or would like to be) around a lot, dump the ENS. If it’s someone you’re only with occasionally, just remember when not to wear it. Some things matter more than a bottle of fragrance. (Lots of things, actually.)

Given what you say she likes (heavier, high-quality scents), I think it's probably the aquatic notes in ENS that are turning her off.

Industrial stink is a really good description! If EN is the original stinker then ENS is a try to make it more wearable. Still not nice to me. I have always thought they smell weird and when wearing them I think that it is so clear to me that I don't want to smell that way.
