It's easier with designers for me because I have more passion for them: Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain. Then Hermes and Givenchy.

With niche, there are a few houses that make several that I've tried and liked. Top three, hmm?

One has to be 4160 Tuesdays, I suppose. I find a bunch of them interesting.

Parfums de Nicolai would be another.

For the third, maybe Amouage, which is making a run in recent posts.

MPG is also good. I've never seen it in a shop that I can remember. I also like Annick Goutal pretty well, and some Histoires de Parfums.

But honestly, I don't like a ton of fragances from each house. Just 1 or 2 from Roja and Kilian. Maybe a few from Creed.

I'm more into vintage designer stuff, but I like several niches/artisans from a from a variety of houses. There are approaching eight thousand of them.

I'm a designer guy, so mine comes with many many grains of salt.

    Amouage
    Zoologist

Some things, like Papillion, I cannot really put that in a favorite category when I've only smelled one thing they've made, even if that 1 was a knockout.

Dior, Maison Martin Margiela, E. Marinella, Tom Ford, and Comme des Garcons are all designer houses as far as I am concerned.

I seem to prefer the designer houses myself so far, although the scents I want to sample are almost all niche. I don't have 3 favorite niche houses, but I do seem to have a soft spot for Lucy B.

A tie between Serge Lutens and Sultan Pasha: both have by far the most character of any other niche brands. I wish Sultan Pasha had sprayable extraits too... (having extrait versions of classic SL wouldn’t hurt either ;-P)

Third one... hummm... Frederic Malle perhaps?

    2) Giorgio V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills) - tie
    4) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    5)
Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    6) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    7) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
    7) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie

    Hi Zilpha,

Bois 1920 is a dear brand to me. Their perfumes are high quality, very well blended. Most of their offerings are unisex, sometimes more on the masculine side. However, they have the Voluttose Collection which is marketed for women. La Vaniglia is a very unusual, artistic incense-vanilla. Notturno Fiorentino it's simple yet cozy vanilla-tonka combo with hints of pepper and musk.
All from Limited Art Collection and Oro 1920 and Oro Nero are worth to try. From the regular collection, I suggest Come Il Sole, Come l'Amore, Come La Luna, Vento Di Fiori (those two have gorgeous bottles!) , Sushi Imperiale, Sutra Ylang and Vetiver. There are some that I did not tried yet.

I like that Arquiste is a conceptual line but extremely wearable. I like the design and even the founder- not pretentious. It doesn’t seem like a total niche/luxury money grab; I believe he is actually a lover of fragrance. I think anyone could find something to love in the line, as their is enough variety.

    I own 3:

Flor y Canto- Tuberose. I’ve always been put off by tuberose, but was determined to find one I liked. TBH, I now find it a bit too sweet/fruity. (Found something similar but better for me in Hove’s Grandee.)

Boutonnière No7- I never thought I’d own a gardenia dominant scent either, but don’t think I’d ever be without this now. To my nose it has just as much vetiver. It reminds me of what a flanker of Chanel No19 parfum (from years ago) would smell like if it was infused with a large gardenia note. Green, woodsy gardenia.

Infanta en Flor- My favorite fragrance family is floral, but I also love a good musk. This is basically a variation on the musk them. Soft and smooth, not too warm- not too cool; with hints of orange flower- but it usually strikes me as apricot. Like the best parts of Cashmere Mist, Daimler Blond, and Wild Musk oil in one perfume.

If one likes a more complex citrus- their L’etrog is reminiscent of Diorella.

I still have plenty more to test from the house. Have tried the popular Architects Club, but I’m just not into vanilla. Again tho, it’s their style. If I were to wear a vanilla, it be this one. Has a crisp and woodsy quality I like. When first applied it smells like a vanilla flavored martini, then deepens and gets smoother.
