Very nice trio, Ken. I can live with these.

Hypothetically I might consider retiring from the scented pursuit with:

    1. Distinctive. Masculine. Leather /vetiver preferred.
The Black Knight by Francesca Bianchi
A dignified masculine leather with patchouli, vetiver, orris butter & a hint of rose. Finally a fragrance that makes me revisit the ‘signature scent’ question. And it’s not even officially released yet.

    2. Classic. Versatile. All Seasons. Citrus /Woods preferred.
    Armani Eau Pour Homme (vintage)
Classy, always impeccably mannered, perfect for any occasion. Securing a lifetime supply could be an issue though.

    3. Rakish. Dandy. Unexpected. Tobaccos preferred.

    Oroville by Xerjoff
    Chamomile, galbanum, tobacco.
    Underrated sleeper hit IMO.

    or Bortnikoff Sir Winston
Green tea. Tuberose. Tobacco. Bouya oud.
    R
    eally digging this. Surprising contender.

That's not only because I love it, but because it has a very special personal meaning for me.

I don't like that I lose 1 to aftershave. I gotta keep an aftershave or I'll get razor burn, but I don't wear them as a fragrance. Might as well penalize me 1 for using toilet paper too.

    1. Brut aftershave
    2. Polo -
    3. Armani Gio

I would go Yatagan, since it is my favorite. But I'd be worried about discontinuation and availability. If it were imposible to find in 10 years I'd be stuck with one fragrance for the rest of my life. Polo will be around, I'm confident in that that will fill a similar role. Gucci Guilty Absolute will definitely not be around forever, so that is off the table completely. Gio is my wifes favorite, and I need something that is versatile, readily available, safe from discontinuation and good in summer.

Hopefully you're not using Eau de Toilet to perfume yourself...?

Aftershave lotions are ok - something to soothe, something unscented. It does all the practical jobs needed. But you're still free to pick one - and I think it's an interesting call. Good to see you go for an aftershave. Practical. I like it.

For me it’s not just a case of my favourite 3, they have to be able to cover all season, they have to be fragrances I’ve worn several times over the years and not only not gotten sick of, but also still enjoy wearing each time

    1. I need something special, something very long lasting with great projection that I’ve worn many times and still love each time. This would be my scent for Winter. Amber Sky by Ex Nihilo

    2. I need an all year, all weather, all occasion fragrances again with great performance that I love and I can’t leave this one out under any circumstances. Cedrat Boise by Mancera

    3. The toughest choice and I struggled to pick between 3 but sticking to the rules I’ll mention just the one. This is my warm weather scent for summer & spring. I went with one I’ve worn for many years and never got sick of. Aqua Di Gio by Armani
    My top 30

Absolutely, I agree, and I liked the way you conceptualised your picks as well. 1 winter warming powerful scent, an year all rounder, and a fresher scent for warmer weather.

Personally, my 3 wouldn't be too far off that.

I've thought about this topic and I'm not sure how I would get it down from 4 or 5 to 3. 4 in particular is a tough number - I'm not regretting setting the topic with a limit of 3, but I can see the difficulties in making the cut at this point!

    Hmmmm...

    1. Starting off, it would be the solid all-rounder. Creed Aventus takes it. It was a slow burn for me - didn't really 'get' the hype. Something clicked while wearing during the end of this summer, in the wet and slightly warm weather: this was a genuine all-rounder, and despite average performance and a hefty price, I really, really like it and cannot criticise a single part of its scent. And that's rare. I would feel comfortable wearing this wherever, particularly in the warmer weather, and so it gets in ahead of one of its derivatives. I don't think I'd choose one scent solely for warm weather - I feel the citrus in this is enough to cover the British summer. Orrrr...

    2. A salty fresh scent. This is the other versatile way to go. For me...and I'm almost loathe to pick this as I haven't definitively made my mind up about this or another salty-fresh scent in 'real' life...but I'd say Tom Ford's Oud Minerale would be my second pick. I do beieve the drydown makes it versatile, and I do believe it is an all year wear if you want or need it to be.

    3. This then leaves the woody oriental or winter/special. At present, it's Gucci Pour Homme, and I'm happy with that.

All fairly expensive, and if I were actually forced to wear 3 forever, I'd have a tough old time choosing any of these over a similar alternative, but I think this is still the most likely 3 I'd take.

Perhaps I should have thought about what I'd selected before making the thread, and asked for 4 for life instead of 3...!? Haha...
