Default Copper by Comme des Garçons

Is it just me, or does it seems like CdG is releasing a LOT of new fragrances all at once? The Monocle collaboration; the Theatre one, the Clash Series (three fragrances) and now this one...

    Now Smell This reports:

Comme des Garçons has launched Copper, a new fragrance in the brand's signature pebble collection. Copper was "inspired by the idea of lying in the grass next to someone wearing excessive suntan lotion".

Chemically synthesized metals underscore natural notes. Copper is an olfactive exploration of perceived differences and their harmonious alignment.

The notes feature galbanum, peppercorns, ginger, myrrh, metallic notes and amber.

Comme des Garçons Copper is available in Eau de Parfum, and I will update with sizes when I can.

Perhaps the house is hoping and pushing for good holiday sales by the end of the year.

This sounds like a sample rather than purchase scent for me.

Are CdG’s fragrances still split, with Puig controlling the pebble bottle releases and CdG (or someone else) responsible for everything else? I wonder how much coordination there is there. Hednic’s view that it’s in preparation for the holiday/gift giving season seams most plausible.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.

I’m curious about this one, and about the rest of the pile they’ve suddenly released. But I also agree that it seems like quite a few new bottles out all at once.

I'm thinking that a bottle of Coppertone might be a bit less expensive ?

I thought the same about Virgin Island Water, ( and still do) which is roughly three times the asking price of this one will be.
I'll be giving it a try.

Came across a Russian review and pic on Instagram. I have to say, the bottle looked nice in hand.

the review was butchered through the machine translation, but it sounded interesting with references to metallic notes and resin in addition to sunscreen. Still doesn’t sound like something I want to own, but probably interesting to have a sample of.

The bottle looks really nice! Metallic notes are hard to pull off though.

Hmmm interesting. I'd love to sample a CdG metallic-focused frag, but sunscreen lotion is not one of my favorite smells. This almost seems like someone reverse engineered a fragrance based on a dumb pun - "Hey, what if you had a copper fragrance that smelled like Coppertone and copper. That would be funny."

Interesting notes. I happen to enjoy galbanum. Anybody try it yet?

One thing about CdG, it always seems like they are genuinely trying to be creative. And that they have a history for that. And is a difficult approach not to admire.

So it's really hard to not want to smell this stuff, even if it sounds like I won't like it.

    Well said.

I also know they're building a new store...it was mentioned in one of my last CdG new release posts. So perhaps they want to create more excitement about the brand, via new fragrance launches, to enliven their retail sales (which, lets face it, can't be increasing in 2019).

Some of that machine transation reads like poetry. Or maybe a Haiku.

TBH The auto translate from Instagram results in better copy for the scent than a lot of official copy I see fragrance houses put out. It might not work for a mainstream release, but it makes a CdG release sound intriguing. I think credit also needs to go to the original Russian review.
