    Default Fantasy Flankers

We live in the era of the flanker.

I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we can dream up and pitch flankers that don't exist. (I daydream about this kind of thing a lot.)

    To start us off:

L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Noir (2020)

Thierry Wasser's dark sequel to the notable L'Instant releases, this is an EDP that takes the L'Instant DNA in a smoky, shadowy direction, offering up a smoky, bitter, intense cacao combined with a pungent orange rind accord and spices. The effect is a bit like a heavily spiced, dark chocolate version of those orange-chocolates that people give as gifts at Christmas.

Brooks, love this thread concept and your detailed fantasy description. I’ll “play” down the line when my time frees up.

Since we are indulging in a bit of fantasy...

    Ralph Lauren Polo Ambergris
    - vintage Cosmair formula plus genuine ambergris

    Ralph Lauren Polo Heritage
    - vintage formula with tobacco and leather notes amped up

Perhaps also, to a certain extent: Amen Pure Musk and/or Pure Amber - as these may be perhaps among the few notes/categories not (yet) covered by this particular fragrance range

I like how these sound. I'd like some civet in Egoiste to go better with vintage Cuir de Russie.

I like these ideas, especially the second one. I was going to post the same thing. Classic Polo, just amplified. Maybe amp up the leather, tobacco, and the mossy pine note as well. I'd maybe call it POLO 78, but I like Heritage as well.

I, too, often dream about this kind of stuff. Sometimes I even combine essential oils and fragrances in 5 ml decant bottles and make inevitably gross "flankers" of my own

My longtime dream has been for a floral take on Encre Noire - maybe a women's flanker. I'd love to see EN with some jasmine/honeysuckle added in, something like Diptyque Olene's extremely clean, crisp, jasmine tea-like effect. Nothing indolic at all, just pure hedione. That would be the main note, with perhaps some ginger, pepper, dry/airy rose and/or a smidge of lime zest to really make the white florals pop.

Y'know, I thought of that, but I felt it didn't go with the smell jkonick described. "Encre Invisible" sounds more like "Eau d'Eau."

"Encre Invisible" sounds like a flanker with everything but the Iso E Super stripped from it. That would definitely be invisible for some, anyway. It would have to come in a completely clear bottle with something fancy like a label that only shows up under blacklight.

I've actually tested this before, and made my own "home made" version (Iso E oil from Etsy + everclear). But it would be nice to get it in one of those chunky EN bottles, and at much lower EN discounter prices. I unabashedly love Iso E Super - it works great on my skin - but I've held back from buying a bottle of Molecule 01 just because of the relatively steep price for what you're getting.

    Dunhill Icon Parfum (2020)

Perfumer Carlos Benaïm returns to the fragrance he created, offering a richer, deeper take on Icon with a fuller-bodied oud base and more potent juniper heart, transforming Dunhill Icon into a kind of mass-market peer of Amouage Journey Man.

I'd like to see a Terre d'Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver - but, twist - it's made by Jean-Claude Ellena, with NO AMBROXAN lol. I'd love to see how JCE would highlight the vetiver without using "intense" as a euphemism for scratchy fake woods.

+1 good one, I’m hoping Guerlain drops a new fragrance on the same quality level of L’Instant De Guerlain Pour Homme EDP I think we’ve all seen enough good recent releases it’s time for a excellent release!
