I would not recommend a blind buy. I saw you opened a thread regarding shipping to Canada from Fragrance Net and X. Are you located in Canada? I could send you a small decant.

great price, thanks.. but I guess Yoshimi is right, I should maybe try it. THough I have a kind of gut feeling on this one. I've always wanted to smell like a Byzantine Priest. I even have the beard and everything and speak Russian fluently. I KNOW I can pull this Priest thing off.....

    I'm in Nicaragua, Yoshimi.

If you did send it, I could pay for postage....it's not prohibited to send tiny samples is it ? It would get here if it was tucked inside something....

my last attempt sending a whole bottle by air didn't go so well...but a sample...surely they have better things to be doing than stopping them?

And by the way, I would pay you for the decant of course.

Amouage is not a safe blind buy. You need to try it.

I hear you. But a lot of people said Azzaro was safe, and ....well....I'm spraying my pant legs with it, in the hope it won't burn my nostril hairs off.

Given that you can't sample anything and are on a limited budget, I would personally say you're better off buying 4-5 cheapies for the same price as an Amouage bottle. Diversify your holdings, so to speak, to avoid a major loss. You might also search reviews and other threads on the board for Amouage clone suggestions, although there are also lots of good non-clone cheapies that might be better options anyway.

    That's a very good price.

To be honest I was being serious about the Byzantine Priest thing. Even our local vicar in Cheshire had that smell, whiff of musky myrhh , and the further East you go, the more intense it is. I had something similar from someone passing by in Moscow, but that turned out to be L'Instant, and I guess that was the patchouli.

I like dark, Eastern, sophisticated scents. If I could afford the Ouds I would be all over them. I want to try new things, don't really want to stay bogged down in the same scents I was wearing as a 17 year old, though back then I was considered sophisticated because I inherited the fragrance stash of my lover's ex-husband - Aramis PH, Givenchy Gentleman, and YSL Pour Homme. Tell you for nothing, there weren't many boys of 17 wearing stuff like that back then.

I agree with you and would like to try a few alongside the Zino Davidoff, as soon as my next mule can get here in December. Zino is a blind buy, and not expensive. IF there are others, similar, please let me know. I don't like sweet and cloying. Lapidus is already annoying me, Yuk too sweet for me. I like Middle Eastern, sultry, dark, dangerous and brooding, not cough syrup in a bottle.

+1 Epic is a bit polarizing. I have an older non-magnetic bottle which I acquired when I purchased a friend's collection. I do appreciate the fragrance, but it's not at the top of my list. Maybe I need to revisit this one and give it a wear again this winter, definitely test before you buy.

Oh...I am so sorry, but I am reticent to send perfume outside Canada because the customs declaration, even for decants. But if you have a friend in Canada that could bring it to you, I would gladly give you a decant.

I find its quite spicy, caraway and nutmeg stick out more than reviews imply.
I have a newer bottle and its softer, more "oudy" than I remember when I had a small 30ml travel bottle of it.
Decent, but quite an acquired taste.

The opening of Epic is stunning, dry down I grew bored with but the opening is 10/10. Maxaroma usually has fair discounted prices.

At some point, you're going to have to realize different people enjoy different things. Buying based on what other people like means owning things other people like, but you're not other people. A lot of people said Azzaro was safe, which means whichever Azzaro you're talking about was safe to those people. You're not them.

I predict a purchase of Epic Man you'll regret. It's a great fragrance but it is not mass appeal, nor was it created to be mass appeal. Amouage makes challenging stuff. If you like their style, you'll probably enjoy Epic Man, but that doesn't mean other people will enjoy how you smell when you wear it. I've received both good and bad feedback while wearing it. In the end, it wasn't a buy for me.

It would be good to check the sales thread here as Amouage bottles do show up quite often. Creating a thread in the fragrance wanted would certainly help.

A couple of weeks ago you could have found it for USD$110 off discounters. I believe you could find it around that price point if you keep on the lookout.

I think you should buy about $200 worth of samples from Luckyscent and some of these atomizers:

Take your time with them. Start ONE thread here on Basenotes about your thoughts on them. Then you can decide if you really want full bottles and whether it's worth the trouble of getting them to you in Nicaragua.

    +100

Blind buying is for those with relatively few concerns about budget, import restrictions, suitable storage space, or discontented significant others. That's not terribly many people: BN just gathers them together in one place to create the illusion of normalcy. Samples are the way to go. As a bonus, you remove the distraction of fancy bottles so you can focus on the contents. The only downside is gratification that's less instantaneous. I think that's a good trade for saving (probably) thousands of dollars.

    Luckyscent samples:

As you can see, they're dabbers. Great for shipping and long-term storage, but bad for testing. Dump them in the above atomizers to spray them on. Buy them from Ebay, Amazon, or Aliexpress. They're cheap.
