    Default Favorite Perfumer

Who is you favorite perfumer? I'm talking about their body of work and some of your favorites from that person. I am pretty new to this, but I am a fan of Olivier Polge. Invictus, Valentino Uomo, Spicebomb, D&G The one.

Jean-Claude Ellena is one of my favorites. I love his light, transparent style. Favorites of mine include: Cartier Declaration, Terre d'Hermes, Voyage d'Hermes, Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert, Malle Bigarade Concentre, Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte, etc.

Out of currently active noses, Dominique Ropion (Portrait of a Lady, Superstitious, Une Fleur de Cassie, Carnal Flower, Costume National Homme, The Night, Ysatis, etc.) when on his game is my favorite, but that is only around half the time as he does a lot of crap projects. The two most consistently superb noses I have encountered over the years are Edouard Flechier (Davidoff, Lys Mediterranee, Tendre Poison, Montana Parfum d’Homme, Montana Black Edition, Havana, Trance, etc.), and Frank Voelkl (Javanese Patchouli, Santal 33, Ylang 49, The Noir 29, etc.). Just about anything done by the latter two I will near-surely like or more likely love.

Big fan of both Olivier Polge and JCE.

Spicebomb, Kenzo Power, Dior Homme, Valentino Uomo, Bleu de Chanel Parfum, Burberry The Beat For Men, Gabrielle, F Pour Homme Black, Kenzo Pour Homme Woody, and especially Chanel No. 5 L'Eau.

Terre d'Hermès, Voyage d'Hermès, Jour d'Hermès, Eau de Campagne, Eau de Pamplemousse Rose, Vetiver Tonka, Santal Massoia, The Jardin series.

Kinda funny, but their family (Jacques Polge, Celine Ellena) are close seconds. Bleu and SdV among many others!

Starting to like Christine Nagel (Galop, TdH Vetiver). Many others, too. Picking one is hard for me.

Of those who are still working, I'd have to say Bertrand Duchaufour, whose incense-themed work dovetails nicely with my own personal taste (Avignon, Timbuktu and Dzonghka, Jubilation XXV).

This, and especially the last sentence.

I started thinking Bertrand Duchaufour. Here’s a few of his standouts:
    Colonia Assoluta
    Copal Azur
    Jubilation
    Sequoia
    Avignon
    Kyoto
    Frank No.1
    Al Oudh
    Dzongkha
    Merchant Loup
    Timbuktu
    Chypre Palatin
    Sartorial
    Enchanted Forest

But then there’s so many other perfumers which have created many amazing fragrances which I’m fond. Picking one is hard for me as well.

Honestly I don’t have a clue who is the nose behind my fragrances. I buy what I like to smell, not who makes it. Guess I’m not that detailed into the hobby. To me that’s more work then it’s worth to keep up with all that

Jean Claude Ellena is my all time favorite. His style is unmatched, his fragrances are often linear, and easy to tell when they are his. His daughter has a similar style, but not nearly as good.

Some other's whose work I enjoy:
    James Heeley
    Annick Menardo
    Lucien Ferrero
    Antoine Lie

It's funny you mention Frank Voelkl, as he did a lot for Avon in the late 90's through late 2000's alongside Calice Becker and Harry Freemont. Since most folks 'round here don't really mess with more recent Avon (at least from the last 25 years), it gets glossed over.

My favorites are Edmond Roudnitska, Jacques Guerlain, Jean-Paul Guerlain, Harry Freemont, Raymond Chalian, Bernard Chant, Pierre Bourdon, Jacques Polge, Olivier Polge, and Mark Anthony.

Jean Desprez for me, the way he blended nitromusks with the real stuff created an otherworldly sensation of velvet texture that was smooth one moment, then melting away to reveal the next stage of a creation. Very much in the same way of Jacques Guerlain. I don't see a lot of recognition since his brand was sold on to multiple companies since his death.

Although perhaps inactive by now or at least without any important recent releases, having to add Roger Pellegrino, at least due to at least two personal favorites: One Man Show and Armani Eau pour Homme.

Among the ones still active, seconding and/or adding the perfumers from the Polge, the Creed and the Guerlain families, plus also Thierry Wasser.

I admire/love the works of many, my favourite perfumes are by Pierre Bourdon (Kouros), Patricia de Nicolai (New York Intense), Jacques Cavallier (Rive Gauche pour Homme) and several by Christopher Sheldrake; and, I'm always awed by the creations of Annick Menardo.
