    Default Hello everyone

I've been lurking on the forums for a little while and have only just decided to take the plunge and register.

My current fragrances are as follows:

Al Dur Al Maknoon Silver (apparently similar to Aventus although I must admit that I've never sampled Aventus)
Ard Al Zaafaran Oud 24 hours ( Black Orchid clone)
    Armani Code
    Armani Code Profumo
    Armani Code Absolu
    Chanel Allure Homme Sport
    Chanel Egoiste
    Dior Sauvage edt
Dolce & Gabanna The One EDP
    Issey Miyake L'eau d'Issey
    Ralph Lauren Polo Red

As you can see I'm designer all the way largely due to a pretty limited budget. The one fragrance that I've picked up as a result of reading this forum is Egoiste, a recent purchase which I am now a huge fan of and see being a staple of my wardrobe from now on.

Currently on the possible next purchase list are:

    Aramis Havana
    CK One Shock
    L'Occitane Eau des Baux
    Bentley for men intense
    Givenchy Gentleman Cologne
    Givenchy Gentleman Original
    YSL Jazz
    Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme
    Burberry London
    Chanel Pour Monsieur
    Jacques Bogart Bogart pour Homme

Of the above I've had and liked Givenchy Gentleman before but not had a bottle in a long time. Maybe 20 years or so ago.

I also had and liked at the time a bottle of Jazz in the late 80's. A girl I was a big fan of at the time was a big fan of the fragrance.

The remainder of the above I've yet to try.

Over the years I've tended to only have one or two bottles on the go at a time and have frequently moved from one fragrance to another. It's only been relatively recently that my number of bottles has grown.

I'm always welcome to relatively cheap recommendations that'll round out and add to what I've already got although I'm wary to a certain degree of trying to keep a relatively small collection. Grateful for comments on the possibly purchase list and any suggestions for additions to it.

    Thanks

From your next purchase list I would recommend L'Occitane Eau des Baux and Aramis Havana (because those are 2 that I love). Try to sample the fragrances you are interested in before buying, whenever possible. Good luck!

Great first post, Ruff Diamond. You'll not find much better fragrances than Egoiste and vintage (old-version) Givenchy Gentleman. Certainly not for my tastes.

The list you're considering looks great. At the moment on eBay in the US there seem to be a few decently priced bottles of the old silver wraparound label Givenchy Gentlmen. If I didn't feel stocked for life, I might consider one of those. Another good one from Aramis is Tuscany.

    Welcome!

As others were saying, some old perfumes have been reformulated, so they need not be the way you remember them.

As for more stuff to try, I recommend the Caron trio (Pour un homme, Troisieme homme, Yatagan). Classic, and still good. They're not that easy to find in the US, but they are not expensive when found.

Thanks Cacio. I'm based in the UK and have just seen that Pour un Homme and Yatagan are on an online retailer called allbeauty that I've been looking at other fragrances on.

    Welcome!

Very good lineup already owned, as much as the ones either still to be tested and/or eventually bought. Apart from these very good choices and equally good recommendations already, also taking the liberty to add in no particular order:

    Chanel Antaeus
Mugler Pure Malt, Pure Malt Creation and/or Pure Havane
Bogart Signature, plus also Riviera Night, Furyo and Signature by the same house
Chergui by Serge Lutens, as well most Serge Lutens male/unisex fragrances
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete by Guerlain
    Mystique Homme by Al Haramain
    Jaipur Homme EDP
    Ungaro III Parfum Aromatique
several Cartier fragrances including but not limited to Santos, as well as the Declaration, l'Envol and/or Pasha ranges
most if not nearly all incense bases masculine and/or unisex scents by Le Couvent the Minimes
    Endymion by Penhaligon's
    Van Cleef&Arpels pour Homme
Idole EDP and/or quite a few others male/unisex EDPs by Lubin

among others, to a possible (re) testing list
Currently wearing: Ispahan by Yves Rocher

Welcome, Ruffdiamond! If I’m not mistaken you’ll be the 4th ‘diamond’ on Basenotes lol. Enjoy your time here. Your try/buy list looks good. If a fragrance reminds you of a girl you admired from 20 years ago, I’d say go & hunt that bottle down 1st!

I certainly will do thanks. Trying to figure out from the proposed future buys and suggestions as to which may be particularly best suited in terms of adding variety to the types of fragrances that I already have. Expect that there'll be some blind buys along the way as my local stores don't tend to have the widest of selections.

Havana and Givenchy Gentleman are great. As for Givenchy Gentleman, make sure you get the vintage.

Thanks. Is the 'original' version that's out now supposed to be relatively close to the vintage?

    Update.

Since my original post I've purchased Mystique Homme by Al Haramain as recommended by @Ken_Russell and both worn and enjoyed it since then.

I've also just received through the post today both Bentley for Men Intense and Jacques Bogart pour Homme and I'm looking forward to wearing them over the next few days.

After that I'm currently veering towards Eau des Baux and will probably see if L'Occitane are kind enough to offer a discount come Black Friday.

I'll probably then have a break while I give myself time to both enjoy not only my new fragrances but also my old ones. It'll also be a chance to review and probably add to my next purchase list.

    Thanks everyone.
