Also, do those fragrances match a preppy way of dressing (chinos, button down shirts, overcoat, etc)?
I have a first date lined up and I am wondering if it's a good choice to wear a single spray on the neck of Dior Homme or Dior Homme Intense.
Also, do those fragrances match a preppy way of dressing (chinos, button down shirts, overcoat, etc)?

Dior Homme is the only one I have experience with it's a very pleasant fragrance.![]()
I kinda wonder how the average female these days feels about those 2 fragrances. I would probably be confident wearing Dior Homme Eau, but at this stage in my fragrance journey, I might not be confident wearing the other 2 if I didn't know the taste of the woman in question.
Absolutely. Just make sure to not overspray, but that goes for any fragrance on a first date.
As the others said, seems good. It's pleasant, modern, won't turn off anyone, and one spray doesn't disturb. if it's cold, I'd say the intense version may work even better, with the vanilla and the sweet notes that are usually well liked.
I’d probably go for Dior Homme Intense since we are now in the colder part of the year, since it’s a first date I’d spray with caution “less is more” with the optimal sprays for a first date being behind each ear and the rear base of your neck (think where a head lines up when you hug as that’s when you want them to notice your fragrance).
My Top 6 Most Complimented of 2019:-

2). Sauvage - Dior
3). L’homme - Lacoste
4). Aventus - Creed
5). Allure Homme Sport - Chanel
6), Tommy - Tommy Hilfiger
Don't use a fragrance and see how it goes by simply being yourself.
Or, try announcing that you went online and asked a bunch of strangers what to wear, your date will probably make an excuse and leave.
Dior Homme first date, Dior Homme Intense second date.
If not those Prada L’Homme will be a success!

Dior Homme Intense is perfectly acceptable for a first date. I am not sure how old you are but consider something more mature, fresher if you are over 30. I myself am 37 and only wear Dior Homme for my own pleasure at home or in family and friends situations because I don’t think it suits my personality in wider public situations

Just go light on the spray. Either one should be good. I'd say just stick with Homme, as it's not as overpowering.

Dior Homme Intense would be an excellent choice for a first date, my preference would be that one of the two. Dior Homme would work as well.

Wear whatever makes you feel good go light on the trigger and stop seeking approval. Enjoy your date.
When the night takes on its own life, the tempo changes. Take along, languorous breath. Linger till dawn, keep your head in the stars. You're suspended in time.
No...better wear something unique!
Either would suit your outfit.
Whether they’re suitable for a first date might depend on your date.
Do you wear a fragrance because they need to know up front that you are a perfume wearer or do you treat it like a job interview and try to avoid the risk of creating a bad impression and then slowly easing into the fragrances as the dates/relationship develops?
1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.
No, I wouldn’t. They seem too obvious. I have never tried anywhere near that hard on first dates. But I’m probably not a good example as typically I was always the one who got asked out. Not to brag really but just that the type of women who find me interesting are often the go-getting sort. And I probably wouldn’t even call it a ‘date’. It’ll be just be a meeting where we both see if there’s any spark to consider a second meeting /first real date.
Long story short. Just wear your usual workhorse. Lightly applied.

In the cold weather and the evening, yes absolutely.
Yeah , you'll be fine. I'd wear DH for a quieter date, such as just hanging out in a coffee shop and chatting; and DHI for a date in a more dynamic or outdoors setting.
So you have the perspective of the prey and not the hunter, eh?
What do you mean by trying hard? I'd never consider DH an obvious or try-hard scent. I could see how some people might say that about DHI. But they would be wrong, of course!
I would wear either if it’s your style. DH for a day date or DHI for an evening outing. And as you say, one spray on the neck is the optimum amount with either - you don’t want to come off smelling as “that cologne guy”.
Dior Homme Intense even likelier, due to liking this one even more than the regular Dior Homme, while maybe slightly refraining from overs-praying and keeping the fragrance amount applied quite limited
I wouldn't. You would likely wind up smelling just like her, and that would just be weird.

Would depend on the target. Many women prefer a man to smell masculine, so, unless I knew the target is a young/romantic girl who likes sweet, feminine, pretty scents, I wouldn't reach for DHI. It can also be bit loud and persistent, especially if one uses a spray too much.
Without a doubt!
Apart from many factors such as age, backround, etc (these threads always tempt me to mock, do women like this or that on a first date, because they're all the same....), many people just follow current fashion/advertising and have really bad taste (just turn on the tv and see what people seem to watch...). I don't follow mainstream releases that closely, so couldn't tell you if more feminine scents like DHI outsell fresh scents or Aventus or whatever else is popular. From personal experience, women may find these more androgenous scents nice and pleasant (on a friend) but not particularly sexy on a man. Maybe I just attract that sort of woman, of course.
Indeed I think DHI is one of the scents women really don't like that much whilst men seem to like it (I still own it but am well aware that if I wear it I will have to endure comments like "Are you wearing Shalimar?", "I don't like it" and "Too feminine for you").
