I find this one a bit too decadent for everyday wear, but it is indeed lovely.

I love that word so much!!! Years ago, I popped into a neighborhood grocery store at 2am because I had a craving for a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. There was a woman rummaging through that section of the frozen aisle. She looked... uhm... she looked like she'd had a rough night. Her hair was a mess, her dress was torn, her makeup was running down her face, and I think one of her high heels had broken, leaving her slumped a bit to the side. As she picked a pint of ice cream & closed the door, she turned to face me. I thought she was going to say something like "Excuse me" and step out of the way. Instead, she held up a pint of ice cream and said, confidently yet with a drunken slur, "...because ya' could ALWAYS be decadent."

Decadent is such a fantastic word.

I may sound like a broken record, but then again, so do the fall/winter scent threads....I say again to go with Gucci Guilty Absolute.

Great fragrance. Guerlain L'Homme Ideal is, for me, the less committed version of the state of mind when I wear TF Extreme. It sort of hints at it. "Hey, some of my best friends are decadent!"

I wish Guerlain had better distribution. Their stuff isn't available anywhere near me & I always forget about them when I go on a sample buying spree, partly because it costs as much to sample Guerlain as it costs to sample many niche houses.

I used to be very current on their new offerings, despite limited local access, because I purchased bottles over the phone with some regularity, and so samples were always in the mail. That ended as my collection filled out and I grew picky about new additions. But being a valued Guerlain customer was fun while it lasted, and earned a lot of good will. We have a bunch of engraved Guerlain bottles (some from Paris, in person, when we visited the famous store) that we love. The truth is, their offerings are too cosmetic and/or gourmand for my wife - she just prefers a different, lighter style. But she loves the bottles, and let me buy all kinds of eye-candy for her.

These are dumb reach picks for me in the cooler weather, the vintage formulations are excellent.

I'd also add Guerlain Spiritueusue Double Vanille

My dumb reaches would be Bvlgari Man In Black and D&G The One EdP - they are mainstream, very affordable scents and I enjoy them a lot, thus they are no brainers for any ordinary situation

For this current autumn/winter season, I have been reaching for MFK's Lumiere Noir (men's) quite a bit. I'm really impressed by it, it's longevity and how well it fits the UK cool weather. It is literally my 'no brainer'.

Love Lumiere but not feeling it for rose, or rose predominant. I think Egoiste has some rose though.

Well, I have to admit that more than few come to my mind. This is just a subjective categorisation of frags for day and night during winter time, not something to hold on to.

Winter dumb reach, day : Dior Homme, Boss Bottled/Intense, Azzaro Pour Homme, Mugler A*Men Pure Havane, Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDT, Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDT, D&G The One Gentleman, Chanel Allure Homme, Baldessarini Ultimate

Winter dumb reach,evening/night: Dior Homme Intense, Mugler A*Men, V&R Spicebomb, YSL Body Kouros, Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDP, D&G The One EDT/EDP, Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDP, Chanel Egoiste, Givenchy Pi, Baldessarini Ambre

For me, Spicebomb Extreme, Royal Oud, Pdm Herod, Cedrat Boise, and Black Phantom are all DUMB easy reaches for the cold. Like any of those have never let me down, and some are under 100 I think. Pdm Herod and Spicebomb Extreme are really similar imo, possibly not worth owning both but I love em both.

Im not wanting sweetness, though a little might not hurt. Antaeus, like it was this morning, was my no brainer reach. Yes, it is a little 'birght", maybe floral, but Wife loves it on me. It projects, but moderately. In summer, Grey Vetiver is the no brainer but it does not project as much, but it sure does last.. I wanted to like The One, so the Grey version, I will have to smell. Bulgari Man in Black line works from what I read, but the rubbery of the regular Black would not. Wish Wife liked more smoke, as I love LDDM, but she only tolerates incense/smoke and 2Man is about the limit.

Will have to read up on Aoud Vanille, Aramis Tabacco Reserve, more on each version of Heritage and go sniff Opium. Used to love that on my wife when it was women's version only.

I have read threads that some use Cedrat Boise in fall? I have a half bottle of that and I will have to try that tomorrow, as I am wearing Antaeus this morning.

I am not wanting to venture into the higher priced stuff, as I would go get MFK Satin Mood Oud which is about $225 for 70mls as I recall. Trying to keep it $110 or so for 100ml, though I understand it may be $80 or so for some Lutens through Fragrencenet

    Herod

I don't normally like winter fragrances because they are too strong and spicy. But I recently fell in love with Herod. I tested it it early in my fragrance journey and didn't like it because it was the wrong season. Things have really changed when wearing it in the winter.

I just ordered a bottle and it should be here Tuesday next week. Blew through a few samples last week and knew it was time to pull the trigger. So many compliments and it's just so easy to wear. Some people complain about the soft projection but that's why I love this one. I can wear this to the office or an intimate situation. It's inoffensive and cozy (even more than The One). Have been told I smell like an amazing apple/cinnamon pie. Highly recommended.

Too much reading, not enough sniffing.

For instance, Habit Rouge may have leather listed as a note, but it is really not a leather fragrance.
