At this point l think l'll go for Clear, then maybe one of the darker ones like Rumi or Prowl for evening. Midnight Tryst & Chasing Autumn are also favourites of mine...

I had excellent intentions for this sync. I reached out to Robin-in-FL and she made some excellent recommendations. I hopped onto his website and picked 7 or 8 samples with the goal of hitting that magical FREE SHIPPING number - that part was easy. But the website wouldn't remove the $18 UPS charge so I made a note to myself to call and let them know. And that's where the wheels fell off my little train that couldn't. Every time I thought, "Now's a good time to call" it was well into east coast evening hours. Crap... hangs head. Lather, rinse repeat.

No Neil Morris in my collection, so thinking of a UK equivalent, I'll probably go with something from Papillon, either Angelique (fits with my current rotation/theme) or Anubis (I have a fierce need to wear something that smells of smoke and leather).

There's definitely a good amount of darker scents, it was a very mixed bag of goods that Neil personally recommended to me at the time with quite a few new releases. Chasing Autumn was really good, it reminded me of city pavement on a cold rainy day.

As planned, l've gone for Clear, a bright & cheerful number with linden, grapefruit, & a clean floral musk. ln my review l wrote that this smells like sipping fruit juice outside on a midsummer morning, while your freshly-washed linens dry on the line in the breeze. l'm not sure it'll work so well on a frosty morning in March, & l'm not generally a fan of fruity fragrances, but hopefully it'll be a nice little mood lifter for today.

I have 3 bottles and numerous dessicating samples - I'm going with my 3 bottle fragrances.

First up - Flowers For Men: Rose.

This was my first NM bottle. It has a classic, strong, dark, smoky, ambery Neil Morris base with easily detectable rose notes layered on top of that in the mid, and some light and discreet top notes.

    Dark smoky rose. Enjoyable!

I'm not sure I've ever seen his stuff in a store. Please post if you find his fragrances, which is likelier in your region. I bought all my stuff by mail order. His samples are generously sized. Meetups and swaps are also one of the best ways to experience his work because of those big samples.

The irony of ironies is that at one of the pinnacle moments of his career, when he did a well-reviewed scent for Takashimaya New York, the parent corporation decided to close the store. They may have had his stuff in their surprisingly rich niche department - I never visited personally.

Rumi is one of the most memorable scents I ever wore. The amber and benzoin push into skanky leather and musk territory for me. I dithered about a buy.

Rumi is an amazing scent. If it had the exposure and name brand of Leather Oud and other "challenging" BN faves, it would be much more commonly worn, IMO.

But yeah - not for every nose!!! And strong, too!

I've never sniffed this rose scent, that I can recall, but I love his Rosé Vanille. Beautiful stuff. A bit on the femme side, but the "old books" vanilla aspect is so strong, it borders on smoky, and keeps it unisex.
